Take good care of it using deep coditioning masks once a week, Aussies 3 minute miracle is good, and wash with mild frequent use shampoo.
Don't blow dry your hair or straighten it.
Just because you are growing your hair doesn't mean that you shouldn't cut it, you need to get a trim once every 3 months otherwise you will have a lovely head full of long split ends, and that does't look good. Plus the ends will go all straggly.

As a professional Cosmetologist, I would go back to the Stylist that previously cut and styled your hair. Ask if they offer hair treatments and/or natural alternatives.
Your description of your hair trauma was very limited in detailed, but i'm assuming that your hair is Chemically Colored Depending on the damage you may want to consider one of these two choices when you consult with your stylist:
A. Cutting off the damged hair
B. Prepare to invest in weekly professional protein treatments, Nano Keratin treatments, cholesterol steaming.
and even then these may or may not improve your dillema. However, in the future the best way to avoid this problem ever again, is to always go to a Professional Stylist

Massage u r hair with some olive or cocunut oil. Even though u r hair is becomes greesy do not wash it e-day. wash it every-other day. Use a mild shampoo like Loreal or Finese. usually hair growth in the winter is slower than in the summer. Just wait till the summer and u will see a slight difference. Oh ya eat vitamin E and B12.

I find my hair grows faster when I wash it a lot. I think it stimulates the roots and scalp, but I'm not 100% sure. Straighten your hair, if it isn't already. If your hair is thick, get your hair layered more on the sides (tell them to keep the length so they won't chop the ends!). This will make the sides look thinner and your hair look longer.
What I did was buy clip in hair extensions. I love Jessica Simpson's hairdo extensions... they're super easy to put on, cheaper than permanent extensions and look totally real. But that specific brand can be expensive, so pretty much any other clip ins will do.
Buy online or look in your local beauty shops.

You need to buy a thickening shampoo & conditioner. Try Loreal ! Also you need to get a deep condition at least every two wks (Try Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayo). Limit use of irons... too much heat breaks your hair. Trim your ends every 6 wks. Grease your scalp once a week. Try Organic Root Stimulator Carrot Oil. U will see the results. And also it is important to set your hair at least three times per wk. And wrap it the days you don't set it. Love your hair.... That's all it needs.

Hair grows at about one quarter inches every 6 weeks or so,it grows slightly quicker in the summer months. The more you wash the more it needs it.Washing the hair does not make it grow.Eat your veg and your hair will keep in good condition. There is nothing on the market that you can buy to make your hair grow any quicker.

get it trimmed regularly and take vitamins i took cod liver oil and multivitamins to grow my hair for my wedding and I was surprised of how much it grew. Also if your hair is greasy there is a product called dry shampoo you can get it from Boots the Lee Stafford range do one but there are others (cheaper). Its great for that extra day spray it on your greasy hair and it refreshes it and looks clean for another day.

massage ur scalp twice daily with brill cream or a small amount of olive oil, it stimulates ur scalp making ur hair grow quickly, also try hair and nail vitamins, it really steads up the growth of ur hair and also eat properly, on a healthy diet, i suggest to get a trim every 8-10 weeks as yes it takes some hair off BUT u dont want long damaged hair.

get it trimmed at least once, every 3 months.
buy a shampoo designed 4 greasy hair & use conditioner sparingly.
keep ur hair away from ur face as much as possible, coz that can only make it worse.
& just let ur hair grow.
takes patience & commitment.
having long hair drives me up the wall, eventually!

Just wash it every day or massage your scalp to stimulate hair growth... if your hair has stopped growing you can use this calculator to see how long your hair can potentially grow
http://www.allvidzhaze.com/phptest/hairgrowth.html
when using the calculator, remember hair grows an average of 0.5 inches per month and you loose about 100 hairs per day
