gwhiz answered a question about the age of the universe with this response:

"Please do not tell me what I think.I am a devote Christian, I know the earth is 4.6 billion years old."

If there are other Christians who believe this, why don't they find common ground with scientists and try to convince the rest of the Christians of this important fact!?!?! Same goes for Evolution. Genesis is NOT TRUE, why don't Christians help spread this to other Christians?

Christians are idiots, Quran is the only Truth

The majority of Christians know the earth is older than 6000 years. Why should we waste time trying to convince the minority that they are wrong, it won't work anyway.

Genesis and Evolution are not mutually exclusive. Day just means a period of time (not 1000 years, not 24 hours) and Genesis never says exactly how God did it. I wish people would stop assuming that they are intelligent and everyone else is an idiot. Though I must admit I am attracted to the idea that I am the only intelligent person in the universe. I get more and more evidence every day that this is the truth. (Usually from the numbskulls that assume because you are Christian, or Atheist, or Muslim, or Pagan that you don't have a brain.)

I am a Christian and also think that Science and Christianity are compatible.

All time is relevant, what was considered a day at the beginning of time could be vastly different than what we consider a day.

We as humans were not here at the creation, the point of Genesis is to show how God Created everything, not to be an exact minute by minute accounting of events, the fact that they were broken up into 7 days so that early man could understand does not shake my Cristian faith.

Evolution, the verdict is still out, but, why do we find evolution contrary to God? God is our Creator, even if we were not created in the same exact way that early man thought.

Peace!

PS with all of the killing, injustice, sin, broken families, drug abuse, hunger, immorality, war, murder, starvation, homelessness, genocide, despair, anger, and pain in the world, I think we should talk about how we as Christians need to be helping instead of splitting hairs about Genesis and if it is or is not to be taken literally.

Peace and God Bless!

I am a devout Christian who believes that yes, the earth is over 4 billion years old. So?

The Genesis account says that creation took place over seven days. That does not mean, literally, seven days of twenty-four hours a piece. It is symbolic. Each day just signifies a different period of progress in creation.

Therefore, it is not difficult to coincide the Bible and science. God created the earth first. Then towards the end, God created Man. So it is not far fetched to believe that the "seven days" took up such a large span of time. Each "day" could easily be millions of years.

The Bible is not a science book, it's a book about God's character and how he relates to us humans. So what if it's a billion or a trillion years old. Put yourself in God's shoes. How could he reveal truths liek that the earth is 4.6 billion years old to people who didn't even understand that the world is round and the sun is one of many stars. Most Christians only know what they were taught in sunday school. When we learn those stories, we are children, also not ready for such concepts. Unfortunately, we don't do our homework as we grow old and are lazy about what we believe.

Good question, but I've actually seen a number of Catholics defending evolution on this site before... People could take a good example from that- its called being reasonable and faithful at the same time.

Because the majority of Christians who believe in Creationsim are in specific, born-again denominations. You assume that a Christian is a Christian - not true. I have nothing to do with those guys, and they have nothing to do with me. Our theological positions are vastly different... all we share is the title, and maybe one or two dogmas.

You're doing a good job by yourself. Please don't lump all beliefs of Christians together. Some know little about Scripture and some know a lot. Some are mature and some are immature.
