Especially when one popular belief system states that the catholic church found women to be threatining? Is the extra attention Mary gets now, to cover that up? Or is catholism a lot like christianity and way diverse in their beliefs?

I mean why do you pray to mary? if you worship her so much wouldnt you want to pray like she did...um to jesus?

p.s. i am neither catholic, nor chrisitan, nor atheist.

this is a complete outsider looking in, unbiased question.

Catholics do not worship Mary and if you go to a Catholic Mass, Jesus, not Mary is central to the worship.

People may think that the primary focus is on Mary because the chief prayer of teh Rosary is the Hail Mary. First, we are asking Mary to pray for us. Second, the mysteries of the Rosary are centered on the life of Jesus. Third, a very small percentage of Catholics pray the Rosary.

The reason that you may think that the focus of Catholicism is on Mary and not Jesus is because most of the focus on anti-Catholic bashing is on catholic beliefs of Mary.

I have heard that in other countries there was the mother Gods, etc. To get on the edge so people would be more willing to convert to Christianity, the Mother Mary was made into images.

Problem is that in some countries, people worship & love the statue of the Virgin and not the Lord Jesus Christ. An example of today was when a statue of an ugly mother mary was found (I recall Cuba?) and they have made a church after her and today don't care about Christianity, but worship this idol instead. Pope John Paul 11 even Christianed this Idol. That makes me wonder what the Pope was thinking. I am sure that when He was face to face with Jesus, this work was fried (didn't go to heaven with him).

It is written that Jesus Christ is our intermediary to God. No one comes to the Father except through Him. So, if someone goes to a Mother Mary Image or the spirit of the image, that person is going to other gods before the LORD God (Idolatry). God is mighty jealous and the iniquities are passed onto the 3rd & 4th generations of those who hate God.

The catholic church operates in somewhat more of a system than a religion. To make it easier for pagans to adjust to Christians pagan practices were adopted into the Christian faith and because Christianity has no female deity the papacy elevated Mary to take the place of Jesus who is the only Mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). Some of the other things that were also adopted were: lighting of candles, lamps, holy water, incenses, turning to the east, rings in marriage, offerings on fields and many, many more. The catholic church has been so infiltrated that the pope has set himself up to be God Himself - the pope is a world figure and many have to bow to him, kiss his ring and priests offering forgiveness of sins upon your confession to them. The catholic system are not following in the principles of the Bible.

I'm sure there are many different thoughts, even inside Catholicism; however two instances stick out in my mind.

1) At St. Woodrue's (sp?) in Europe, there is a golden image of Mary with candles around it and a kneeling pad. This is idol worship, pure and simple.
2) I once was given a card with a depiction of Mary as co-mediator and co-redemptor with Jesus. Also idolatry.

I think anybody who venerates Mary like that has been influenced by current feminist trends. It's a lot like the Church of Christ, Scientist, who believe that Mary Baker Eddy is the female complement to Jesus.

They don't worship Mary. They look to Mary for guidance and as an advocate with Jesus, since she's his mother, plus she points the way to Jesus at all times in her actions. She's more like an example and a GPS. There's a difference between gratitude, singing songs of admiration of her character, as an example, and "worship".

We bow to the Buddha, who was simply a PERSON who became the "Awakened One" out of GRATITUDE and RESPECT. The same goes for the Catholic tradition of Mary.

Because you misunderstand Mary's role in Catholicism.

Catholics do not worship nor pray to Mary.

Let's examine part of the Hail Mary prayer:
"Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners."

Clearly, the idea is to ask Mary to pray for the person, just like asking a friend to pray for you.

Just as some denominations focus more on Jesus than God or the Holy Spirit, Catholics choose to recognize the important role Mary holds in the religion a little more than other churches.

I am a Roman Catholic. We do not worship Mary. Instead, we revere the Blessed Virgin (there is a big difference between reverence and outright worship). She was chosen to be the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, and if that's not a sign of God's favor, then what is? She is often seen as an intercessor because of Her unique relationship with Christ. However, Mary did not die on the Cross for our sins; that was Christ's role.

1) We don't.

2) Worship is reserved for the Most Holy Trinity alone.

3) Mary is honored "amongst women" - "all generations shall call her "blessed" - that's right out of scripture.

4) I never pray 'to' the Blessed Virgin. I ask for her intercession (i.e., "pray for us sinners...") as I would any member of the Body of Christ.

5) I never put The Blessed Virgin before Her Son.

That is Catholic theology on the matter.

See, protestants aren't catholics, why?? 'cause they didn't agree with some beliefs, like worship Mary and other many stuffs, that's why they separate from catholic church, both of them belongs to Christianity, I am protestant, and we do respect Mary 'cause she was full of grace, and she was selected for a mission, bring my savior to life....
1 Timothy 2:5 says: "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,"

Hope it helps you...

Men who fear the power of women do so because they feel vulnerable to women, the worship of Mary coinciding with a religion that sets women as second class citizens is a natural result of this.
