even if you do get a rating that is traditionally land based( SeaBees, CTI), that doesn't necessarily mean you still won't be gone from home a lot.

EVERYBODY deploys. and times you are away from home can be as little as a couple fo days at a time to 6,9, even 12 months or more.

Heck, I know people in aircrew billets that are gone from home more often than my husband on sea duty.

Not really, most jobs in the Navy are afloat. All the bigger ships, carriers and what not, are like small cities, 5,000 or more people on board. There is need for every rating on board the ship. Once you get some rank and experience though, you may be able to get a shore unit as an instructor at a Navy school though. I hate to say it, but be prepared to spend time away from your loved ones. The medical benefits can't be beat though.

If you don't want to be on a ship, then the Navy is not for you. Look some place else. Every job in the Navy goes on a ship!

The U.S.Navy has many jobs that are not on a ship or even near water for that fact You should look into the Sea-Bees if you are a land lubber they are similar to the Army's Corps of engineers The sea bees is a acronym for construction battalions you have MCB's (mobile const batts) that go all over the world like the fleet except they usually fly to their destinations ask a recruiter for more info good luck and thank you in advance when you decide to enlist

You won't definitely be on a whip. I've heard of MCPOs who were never on a ship. There are actually some rates in the intel world that can't be forced to go to sea.

SEA BEEs tend to be land based but with this war you would end up in Iraq fixing pipelines and building bases and check points. any job that puts you on a P-3 orion they are shore based and would fit nicely with your family needs. Naval intelligence will get you shore based most of the time. thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

The best job is an Operations Specialist. First one off the ship, last one on. Best liberty. Home more often than not.

Jack C-Not everyone who joins the Air Force will fly planes!!! You know how hard it is to get a damn pilot slot-very, so most are just on bases and never ever fly planes And, as for you-if you seriously are concerned about that, then maybe you would've thought about joining another branch-say Army; Air Force? ....your assignment comes first-they don't get a shiit what you want as long as the task is complete as they asked. :0)...good luck.

There are jobs in the Navy that do not go to see as much as others. AT (Aviation Technician) is one. TAR sailors do not see as much sea time as other's either.
