It depends entierly where you are, most areas in the UK you will need to get a traders license from your local council. These vary in price so their the ones to ask.

If your just talking about the odd car and not having a dozen cars at a time then just keep your head down, send the junk to the auctions and make sure the cars you sell are decent. Dont start selling the same stuff as your local garages as they will soon bubble you if your trading without a license, but the older stuff that they wont sell nobodys really going to worry about. The full laws to do it properly are extortionate with insurance etc and you would be hard pushed to show a profit.

I think in law you are allowed to sell up to between 3 and 6 cars from your own premises without a traders licence. Your local council authority should tell you for sure. Check em out. P.s. Sorry to add this detail..3 to 6 cars yearly. ok

It depends on what state you are in. In Calif you are allowed a certain # per year. (Ithink it is 6) Dealers post an insurance bond. Check with your states DMV for all the requirements.

Yes you do. You need a bonded dealers license and the fee for such a license varies by state. I know in my state {NH} you can sell up to 3 motor vehicles per year without a license but any more than that you have to get one
