I'm not a big fan of horse racing but, I grew up in the shadow of the twin spires. I know what a great Derby that horse ran. I feel like we lost a part of the Churchill Downs/Kentucky Derby today. It stinks.

It really made me sad to read that today. I just wonder if Barbaro should have been euthanized after the terrible injury. The things they put that horse through in the last 8 months and for what? It is just terrible.

It's very sad, as many of us had a great affection for such a strong-willed and beautiful animal. He brought us great pleasure by watching him race. Coming on the heals of my parents having to have their dog of 17 years put down, it is particularly difficult. But the horse was in pain. It was time to let him go.

Sad, but he has just become another statistic on the uglier side of horse racing

I wouldn't go judging people on how they felt pain for the horse. Yes he was just a horse but somehow his courage and grit through all his adversity really touched people. Maybee because he was "just a horse" it really affected people to see how brave he was. Humans are not these superior beings. All life has substance in this world

If he were my horse,he'd have been put down May 20 2006 on the track. He was kept alive because he won the derby and had a high stud fee.

Yes I am. Not only was Barbaro a courageous fighter but he was indeed a champion.

I am. It makes me sad to see any animal have to suffer or be put down though, that's just how I am. I really don't understand how some people have absolutely no compassion for animals what so ever. Some people treat animals like they are stuffed animals to be tossed aside. Personally, I like animals better than people.

I don't know because I don't know how bummed out you are. It's a horse, not like it's a human being or anything. It's too bad tho.

It has had a huge impact, I can hardly function. Could barely get out of bed today and make myself a big breakfast, and I could barely bring myself to answering questions on yahoo answers but I made the best of it and here I am. Greiving, none the less.
