I am looking at trading in my ext cab for a truck with a full back seat. Other specks that are a must is four doors and must be a 4x4. As I live in a snowy place. It probably will not be used for towing but will be used on off road trails for hunting.

I am looking at spending about 6-9k for it. I was thinking of 98-02 with no more than 120k miles.

I have been told that the Ford F150 or the tundra would be best, but what about the Ram 1500 or Chevy 1500?

both ford and the tundra would be good as would the chevy. stay away from the rams as they have severe transmission issues which make it hard to get them fixed correctly. the dodge also has little to no resale value. the chevy has the highest, with the ford in second place. be sure you have the entire transmission checked by a mechanic for possible unseen problems. also, the ford doesn't have as much off-road problems since they are built somewhat more sturdily than the dodge and tundra. chevy has a few minor mechanical repair issues since they use more metric bolts than ford.

Go for the Tundra or the Chevy~~~Forget Ford Forever~~
My son, it seems can't hardly give his Dodge away~~~He loved the Chevy he had for 10 years before that Dodge. He's still kicking himself. Another Son loves his Tundra. Another his GMC.
Enjoy and be happy with what ever you choose to buy.~~ Jill

in case you have no longer any experience in mechanics, i could advise having a mechanic which you have confidence look at the truck till now paying for it. determining to purchase qualified Pre-Owned trucks strait off a lot is a clever decision as nicely. because of the fact in maximum circumstances that's been inspected already from mechanics on the lot. in case you bypass with a diesel truck alongside with a f250, Chevy 2500, or a evade 2500, those trucks can take care of loads of harm. maximum are seen "slightly broken in" at a hundred-150k mile selection. My pal has a '89 Ford F250 with 275k miles on it and he loves it. Smaller trucks like 0.5 ton trucks. (F150, Chevy 1500, evade 1500, Nissan Titan, Toyota Tundra) can final a protracted time yet don't have as long of existence as a diesel engine in the 1ton trucks. quite frankly, any truck you get is going to be the comparable. A Chevy and a Ford will do the comparable ingredient. it genuinely relies upon on mileage to year ratio. A 2010 truck with 100k miles on that's only as superb as a 1996 truck with 80k miles it. this means the 2010 truck grew to become into pushed around 30k miles a year together as the 1996 truck grew to become into pushed around 5k miles a year. the wear and tear and tear is around the comparable on the two trucks. So only wait and notice and seem on line. the wonderful truck will arise.
