If you didn't have any "earned income", then no you don't qualify - EIC is "Earned Income Credit".

The child tax credit only reduces tax than you owe down to as low as zero. If you already don't owe taxes, then you don't get anything from that either.

By the way, what hvandyk82is advising you to do would be breaking the law unless the person claiming the exemptions was the children's father.

The answer is no, you have to have some sort of taxable income to qualify for the EIC and child tax credit. I would suggest having someon else claim your children and make an agreement with them to give you any additional money they receive back. (someone trustworthy of course).

Why would you? How exactly does one go a whole year without having to work? Does the state you live in provide you w/everything you need so you don't have to work or are you extremely wealthy or spouse wealthy? If so than why are you worried about it?

If you are a single parent and did not earn income you do not qualify for the "Earned Income Credit" If you are not single and your spouse worked that would be different stroy.
