The ability for name/number display on caller ID requires the use of SS7 technology. There are still some regions which do not support SS7. Additionally, large business phone systems (called PBX's - Private Branch Exchange) do not produce the necessary information for Caller ID to be shown. If someone has blocked their outgoing call information, you may get this message as well, though more often you will get a display which reads "private" vs. "unknown."

well when you caller ID says that then you really can't tell b/c it is from a blocked, restricted, or private number. The only way you could possibly find out is to get a tracker or a tracer that will break it and find out what the number is. But it costs a lot of money and i really think it is a telemarketer or a sales person.

Now if u answer it and it is like a person who is making threats or endangering your life then maybe get the police involved but if it is no one or sales ppl just let the machine get it and if it is IMPORTANT then they will leave a msg. OKAY?

usually there is a difference between withdrawn and unavailable call id info.
unknow may be the call is coming from a voice over ip like skype where the caller does not have a real number.
or it could be from abroad and that country does not have or has an incompatible caller id system so the data is not available.

Well, the FTC has made it illegal for telemarketers not to have a phone number appear, so it can't be them. It could be someone you know who has a blocked or private/unlisted number. They can unblock their number, but probably forgot. Otherwise it is best to not answer, unless you start getting several of these calls, and then call your phone company for help.

This is usually for calls that are blocked thru the phone company... Prison calls, telemarketers. ITs a group based set of numbers not one in particular.
