In Victorian times it was common for the well to do to have a string in the coffin connected to a bell above ground so if they woke they could call for assistance - hence the term 'Dead Ringers' There were accounts of people actually being saved by this!

I used to work for a Funeral home and there were alot of people who would insist on having a mobile buried with them 'just in case'

Imagine - you wake up and see 'No Signal' AGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH

hehehe! they used to bury people alive quit a bit in the olden days. so often, in fact, that a string attached to a bell on the outside of the graves were installed in case the deceased awoke and had a minimal chance of being heard ringing the bell. Edgar A. Poe obsessed about being buried alive, writing many stories about that particular horror.

nowadays medical technology makes it near impossible to be mistaken for dead and besides, the mortuary kills you with embalming practices even if you slip through the medical cracks.

the air wouldn't do you any good. embalming fluid won't carry oxygen to your organs anyway. if you weren't dead when you got to the undertaker, you were when you left.
