Or lack of Intelligence?

I have 2 dogs... one goes crazy barking at TV when he sees another dog there. The other one is completely indifferent. Which one is smarter? The one who KNOWS that the dog on TV isnt real and DOESNT bark or the otherone.

As well as the personality of your dogs, you have to take into consideration their awareness levels. My mother has several golden retievers. Her first one Peanut, jumps up on the tv every single time C.O.P.S. comes on. She hears that bad boys song and comes running, (my mother things it's because she likes the german sheperds...lol). However, one of her other goldens named Buck, could care less about C.O.P.S, but when my step-day makes a turkey gobble sound...he goes crazy running through the house trying to find it. The turkey sound has no effect on Peanut. I know for a fact that both dogs are extremely well trained and can do all of the same tricks, they are just interested and aware of different things. Just like kids!

I would like to think it's a sign of intelligence (LOL) I have a Jack Russell Terrier who does the same thing. She knows when the commercials come on even if I have the sound muted. She will also sit in front of the TV and watch Animal Planet just like a little kid. It is the funniest thing to watch.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/trainingdog

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

I don't think it's a sign of intellegence it's a sign of their personality. One may be more interactive than the other. I have a dog that chases shadows and the laser pointer, one that doesn't even notice it's there but does more tricks than the other.

It's just the dog's personality.

TVs broadcast at a frequency dogs can't visually follow so you're dog can't watch the TV like we can.

They can definately see movements on the screen and colours.
