I was stunned and saddened that such a magnificent animal just could not make a recovery. I just heard and cried to tell the truth. He put up a valiant fight and most importantly so did the medical team and all who cared for him. They really deserve a lot of credit for doing all they could to save him. Years past, the only answer would have been to put him down. I hope they learned alot from this experience so that in the future, they will be able to save others!

Huge impact!! I hope that huture owners will look at the way Barbaro was treated and give their fallen horses a chance as well. Too many horses are put down too early in life, for fear that they will never make it back. Barbaro is a great example of a horse that almost made it, he fought hard for 8 months. I hope that in the future more horses are given a second chance. Barbaro you will be missed!!

I'm an animal lover, although I've never ridden a horse, just petted them. I think it's sad, especially now since they've had to euthanize him, but I think in a way that it's also hopeful.

That was one strong horse to have endured the setbacks he did and to have held on as long. The bad thing is that even though euthanizing him was probably for the best to keep him from suffering, it still must be hard on the ones who had to make that decision since you never know if he might fully recover or not.

Case in point, our oldest dog hurt his back about 3 weeks ago and we were almost ready to put him to sleep. We just couldn't. I had a strange feeling it just wasn't time, and being pregnant, I emotionally couldn't stand saying goodbye to him if I knew he even had a small fighting chance. I'm so glad we didn't. He's almost completely recovered and the same sweet boy he always has been.

Bummer, just a bummer. But it says alot about us and the world we live in when this receives as much attention as the now-daily slaughter of Americans and Iraqis halfway around the world.

If he were my horse,he'd have been put down May 20 20006 on the track. He was kept alive because he won the derby and had a high stud fee.

I didn't know he was euthanized. I'm an animal lover so I feel their pain anytime something hurts them due to humans. I hate horse racing. I'm so sad for him but at least his pain is gone.

It really hasn't impacted me personally, other than I feel sorry for him.

I love horses and I hated to hear that his prognosis was not good from the start.

That poor animal should have been put down when he first injured himself. Horses are very poor patients, and I think it was unfair to have kept putting him through surgey after surgery when everyone knew it was more than likely he would hurt himself again. At least the poor thing isn't in any more pain now.
