I'm gonna have to agree with birdsflies and revdauphinee. I never understood it myself as a pentecostal. Basically from what i got thus far from going to the pentecostal church is we don't wear earrings because we are putting holes into our body and our body is out temple. We also believe in inner beauty also its materialistic, but I wear necklaces and bracelets all the time, costume (cheap, fake) type of jewelry nothing like diamonds, or pearls. It also depends on the church some are really strict about this some not even allowed to wear wedding rings. To me I say who cares as long as its in good taste not walking into with diamond necklaces as we are be preached about feeding the needy

It may be that there is something 'in' their religion that forbids the wearing of any 'jewelry' (other than an engagement/wedding ring) ... or it could simply be that they 'don't like jewelry' ...
Generally, if 'wearing jewelry' is 'forbidden' by ANY religion/cult, there is something 'in the Bible' or that religion's 'Bible-type book' that explains WHY wearing jewelry is 'wrong' or 'a sin' ...but I have seen many 'Seventh Day Adventists' who wear jewelry, and also 'Jehovah's Witnesses' and people who belong to 'Pentecostal' churches. As far as I know, the Amish don't wear jewelry for 'decoration' and I don't think the Shakers do, either ... so if you do 'know' women in the other 'religious groups' who don't, I suggest that you simply ASK THEM and explain that you are 'curious as to why' they don't wear jewelry. Believe it or not, most people are HAPPY TO EXPLAIN about the 'little things' in THEIR RELIGION that you 'don't understand,' but you HAVE TO ASK before they will tell you anything.

For the same reason that some hard core christians believe that showing your arms, and even a hint of your leg (like the ankle) is a sin....modesty..to keep the men in the church from "evil thoughts and temptations"
oh yeah cause i know a lot of guys that get turned on by earrings and a glimpse of my ankle.....

Jewels make a woman look attractive..wearing them also proves to be a slave to ambitions. At least, as per my religious philosophy this could be the reasons for not wearing jewels...

I am a Pentacostal & I think they are mis-interpretating the scriptures where is says don't put on costly arrays. My wife as a Christian wears a long dress down to her ankles, & has long hair almost down to her hips, Yet she will where a neckless, or a Bracelets, But not to the extreme.

It comes from the following scripture, "Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire". - 1Tim. 2.9
Of course, one could say that women should not wear any clothing at all! "Do not let your adorning be external--the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing". - 1 Pet. 3.3 This passage doesn't say "costly" clothing, it simply says "clothing". Now that would be an interesting church!

(1Tim.2:9-15
9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
