No, Penicillin and Erythromycin are in two different drug classes.
Penicillin is in the drug class of Amoxycillin
Erythromycin is in the drug class of Macrolide
Thus if you've allergies to Penicillin, you should be ok taking erythromycin.
I hope that answers your question

Erythromycin is a completely separate class of antibiotic than penicillin. If you are worried about a penicillin allergy, then you should only be concerned about taking penicillin and some other antibiotics classed as cephalosporins. Cephalosporins can cause an allergic reaction in individuals with penicillin allergies because the chemical compound of cephalosporins is so closely related to the chemical structure of penicillin. Some common cephalosporins include Keflex, Ceclor, Duracef, Ceftin, and Suprax...to name a few.

An antibiotic obtained from a strain of the actinomycete Streptomyces erythreus, effective against many gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative bacteria
The drugs described here include erythromycins (Erythrocin, Ery-C, E-Mycin, and other brands) and medicines that are chemically related to erythromycins, such as azithromycin (Zithromax) and clarithromycin (Biaxin). They are available only with a physician's prescription and are sold in capsule, tablet (regular and chewable), liquid, and injectable forms.
Erythromycins, also called macrolides, are a group of antibiotics, medicines that kill bacteria or prevent their growth.
Description
The antibiotics in this group are:
azithromycin (Zithromax)
clarithromycin (Biaxin)
clindamycin (Cleocin)
erythromycin (EES, Pediazole)
lincomycin (Lincocin)
Erythromycin is similar in use to penicillin and is widely used for patients who are allergic to penicillin.
Penicillin has advantages over erythromycin in that it kills bacteria, while erythromycin only stops bacterial growth and relies on the body's immune system to kill bacteria. Also, erythromycin is more likely to cause stomach upset than is penicillin. Sometimes erythromycin may be used to treat a microorganism that is resistant to penicillin.
Azithromycin and clarithromycin both reach the lungs and respiratory tract better than does erythromycin. These two drugs may be preferred for respiratory tract infections.
Clindamycin and lincomycin are similar to each other and are more effective than erythromycin for treatment of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria can grow in the absence of oxygen.

There are a couple of wrong answers in this lot! Bacteria Boy and Dr_qutub1 are wrong. Erythromycin is chemically quite different to penicillin and works in a totally different way. There's no penicillin in erythromycin tablets. I hope Dr qutub1 isn't a real dr, heaven help his patients!

No it doesn't contain penicillin. Erythromycin is regularly prescribed for people who are allergic to penicillin. The general rule is that if it ends in cillin then its a penicillin (for eg. amoxycillin, flucloxacillin) although this is not always the case.

No it doesn't.
I know this because it's prescribed for me and I'm allergic to penicillin.
And, from NetDoctor:
"Erythromycin has a similar range of antibacterial activity to penicillin and so is also useful as an alternative to penicillin in people who are allergic to penicillins."
Double-check this info at http://www2.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/showpreparation.asp?id=953

No. It belongs to the same family of antibiotics as penicillin because it has part of the same structure, but it does not *contain* penicillin.

"Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic which has an antimicrobial spectrum similar to or slightly wider than that of penicillin, and is often used for people who have an allergy to penicillins. "
So by reading this I presume is does not
