We adopted 2 Siberian Huskies from a "backyard" breeder. We were only going to take one but felt bad for the last one there. They were in tiny outdoor runs with poop and pee everywhere. All the puppies were covered in it as well. There was barely any cover from all the rain we have been having. There were rows and rows of dogs used for breeding and all different breeds. When we took them home we noticed they had extremely bad worms and were all tired and lethargic. They are better now after alot of vet visits and medicines. We also just found out our male has a zinc deficiency. We just want to know where to go to complain about this breeder. Any help would be grateful. Thanks.

Animal control and the humane society would be the first places to start filing complaints with if the dogs remaining in their care are not being taken care of properly.

If you truly "adopted" those Huskies (i.e., did not pay the breeders), then I'm very happy. You rescued two pups that may have been thrown in shelters or be put down.

However, if you bought them, in the future, I ask that you please more carefully consider the breeders. I always insist on visiting the breeder's area and meeting the pup's parents if possible (usually, if the breeder is reputable, at least one of the parents is on site). Check to see if papers are available. Check living conditions. Check the overall standard of living. A good breeder has healthy dogs with lots of room. Pups will attract flies and such, it can't be helped. But the area should be clean as possible.

In your case, you found the nightmare of a breeder. Report them to the humane society and animal control police in your area. The breeder may be fined and may even have the dogs taken away. If nothing else, the fine may prevent future breeding.

Regardless, I'm so happy you were able to at least help two pups. Be sure to neuter them once they are old enough.

Dont be confused-this is not a BYB, you were at a Puppy Mill! The best you can do is contact animal control and the local SPCA. Also, go online and do a search for local huskie rescue and alert them-you said that they had other breeds, contact those folks too. Tell as many agencies and animal welfare groups as possible to see if they can investigate. It is a process and they won't storm them tomorrow and stop it-it could take months, but it has to start with someone making the call.

If they are a backyard breeder there isn't anyone to complain to other than your local animal control shelter. As sad as the circle is - your buying from them actually perpetuated the circle and encouraged them to continue breeding dogs in this fashion.

Most Humane Societys are private organizations (The have no authority to confiscate or fine offenders). Most city shelters only require an owner to provide basic food, water and shelter. It sounds harsh and unfair to the animal but that's the way it is.

The only way to put a backyard breeder out of business is to stop buying their puppies and to spread the word to shelters, rescue groups and to others looking for a dog to NOT buy from them.

Don't get me wrong - I HATE backyard breeders - but until we change the laws regarding acceptable breeding practices and start treating animals as PETS and not PROPERTY (check your local ordinance - they are considered the same as a bike or basketball) nothing can be done to stop these people permanently. Not just putting them out temporarily by taking a litter - put them out completely by banning them from owning pets.

Call the animal protection agency in your area.

There are laws that govern how many animals can be kept on a property and the conditions that property must be kept in.

Never buy a dog from a backyard breeder, no mater how sorry you feel for the dogs, this only serves as an incentive for them to continue their practice.

your local ASPCA

Thats really about it. It's horrible that those people don't have any heart and can treat a living animal this way.

Just spread the word the best you can. Maybe talk to the vet and see if they have any suggestions on how to complain.

Good Luck. I hope you put them out of business!!

First of all, I think all breeders should be stuffed into cages and only used for their reproduction abilities. They should be forced to have baby after baby and then dumped when they are no longer useful. They should be given no affection, no good food or water, and they should have to sleep in their own piss and poop.

In short, I think they should be treated exactly how they treat the animals.

But to answer your question, go to the Humane Society of the United States webpage and contact them. They should be able to tell you what to do. Good luck.,

Firstly you shouldn't of bought ANY dog from them as you are giving them money to breed more.
Second Call the SPCA or shelter.
Third take care of the dogs, get them fixed.

You could call animal control for them to investigate. You could also ask your vet they may know what the best steps to take are. Good Luck!

Call the police, animal control, the ASPCA or the animal police if you have that in your area.
