We live in South Africa, my brother is moving to UK on 17 Feb. I want to buy/make him a going away gift, i was thinking about a little photo album with pics of the family, my mom said no, that it would make him homesick. He's 21.

I live in the US and my brother moved to Australia last year. Family photos are a great idea! You could also try having them put on a mug to brighten his morning :) also, some money already in UK currency so he doesn't have to worry about it straight away. We made him a family recipe cookbook with the baiscs that we always make at home so he didn't go hungry - i think that was his favorite. you can have everyone give in their own recipes and then put them in a binder for him.

I think if you have a good picture of a really happy moment you could frame that and when he is feeling sad then he could reflect on that moment. A album of fun times is the thing. He will have sad times and I think that is the best idea. Pictures helped me while I lived in Spain and my family lived in Florida and Kentucky

Great idea. Of course he will be homesick.
It would be nice to have pics to look at rather than nothing.
It is a very thoughtful gift.....

YOUR MOM MAY BE JUST A LITTLE OVERPROTECTIVE OF YOUR BROTHER- HER SON. I THINK THAT YOUR IDEA IS GREAT. IF YOU ARE GOOD AT MAKING CRAFTS TRY THINKING OF SOMETHING ELSE HE MIGHT ENJOY AND KEEP YOUR MOTHER HAPPY TOO. GOOD LUCK

why not give him a pic of you and him? that will mean just as much and he'll have something to remember you by.
