Is it cold and/or dry where you live? I found this web site that may help:

I don't know of any reason that a purifier would be bad ACCEPT that it creates a constant draft. If you're wanting it for the reason of collecting bird dander than you'll have to have it close to the cage, and having it close to the cage means there will be a draft near the bird.

My mother has an african grey and she went to walmart and in the material department she bought a large piece of clear plastic and has it attached to the back of the bird cage and half way wrapped around the sides so when the bird drops feathers and seed the majority of them fall straight to the bottom. My mom has a very large cage though. (i don't know if it's healthy to wrap a smaller cage like that).

A Hepa-filter is fine to use. The jury is still out on any filter that uses or produces ozone (think Ionic Breeze type filters,) however, I did use one of these around my cockatiels without problems for several years.

I dont know why they wouldnt be. They just suck in air and trap dust. I have a Oreck in my bird room.
