Hi! I'm getting a black lab puppy. Does anyone know any good websites to look at to get more information. I've already checked out www.akc.org and www.dogbreedinfo.com. Are there any more good, informative sites about labs? Are labs easy to train?

Since labs shed a lot, what kind of brush should I get? How often should they be bathed? This is going to be an outside dog, so I don't want to bathe it too often.

The puppy is just going to be a pet-not a show dog or a hunting dog-just a pet. I am getting her spayed so we don't have any unwanted puppies.

Labrador Retrievers for dummies. I'm not being sarcastic - honest. The book has good information about the breed temperment, training tips etc.
Labs are high energy dogs that need lots of exercise, love and training. If you can feed it on a regular basis the dog is in heaven!! LOL.
They are very smart dogs and easily trainable. Look into the book and some training classes. I recommend a group class as a puppy and then a one on one trainer as the dog gets older.
Good choice on the dog and Good Luck

I have the Labs for dummies too its a good source of info and is properly categorized. I have owned them before like 20 years ago when there was no net no cd's heck no vcrs so in this day in age there are literally tons of info .
I like the training your retreiver and the Waterdog/Gundog dvds
found this one http://www.totalretriever.com/
and this one http://www.teachmeplease.com/index.html
both make sense. I am getting a black lab puppy on March 10th as well so i have read up on everything
look at the dog whisperer site too..thats good info

If you try maybe you should try to google black labs or something like that and a ton of web sites will come up. As for the training I think that they are easier than Yorkshire terriers because I have a Yorkie and she won't listen all the time. But my cousin has a lab and it follows her and comes whenever she calls.

Labs are loving sweet dogs. They are big shedders and are very active. They act like puppies for a few years. They also need alot of exercise and like most other dogs, dont do well if left alone all day.

Provided you are looking for a field bred Lab and not a show bred Lab, this is the best site to shop on because they will only list litters with health certified parents.
The site is owned by the publishers of "Field Trial News"
http://www.working-retriever.com/
.

I think labs are wonderful, i have two (both mixes) and they are both wonderful. I think they are easy to train, my older one was hard to train (i think) because there are 6 people in the house so everyone trained him differently and let him do things that the other person wouldnt let him do. My younger lab is great, it is just my boyfriend and i, and we have consistent training with him. So now we are trying to retrain the older one. But labs are wonderful!

I don't know about any websites, but labs are great dogs! You just need to have patience with them because they are very playful and will get into a lot of stuff

Let me tell you... I have a black lab and a yellow lab and they are the GREATEST dogs in the world!!!
My black lab is REALLY smart, and I found them really easy to train. He sits, lays, walks nice, plays ball etc... and he has the greatest personality!! they both do!

I had a yellow lab. She was a very loveable and playful pup! At the age of 2 she was still pretty hyper. She loved to have lots of space to run! They are pretty smart dogs though! Enjoy!

Plus they like to dig and chew everything in sight. Keep a few chewing toys around and dont leave them alone for very long periods of time. They are very friendly and lovable.
