First, if this has been happening for THREE years, why would you continue to leave the dogs outside, unattended?? Your asswipe neighbors will never stop doing this, it seems, so I think you need to keep the dogs inside at all times.

Second, I would honestly beat the living crap out of anyone who was hurting my dogs. I am not suggesting that you react with violence, but I am surprised that you have not reached that extreme. For me, they would only have had to do it once, and I would have been knocking on their door with a gun of my own.

The police should be doing something about this. You need to establish WHY the neighbors are even doing this, if they really do have a formal complaint that is one thing, but they should NOT be shooting at your dogs. Why haven't they been arrested? Do the police in your town know what they're doing???

TAfter all these police reports and calling the animal controll and you have the dates that you did ...go even to the police station and see if you can get copies of the calls when they came to your house, and animal controll.Go to the police station and file charges of harrasment on those neighbors of yours. What are the laws where you are on shooting off a B.B. gun in the city limits. Some times the police officers do not tell you of your option. You also have the city councilman from your district and tell him about all this...its part of his job, tell him you have gotton no help from the polices or animal controll.Ask different neighbors if they have seen anything. Put a LARGE sign...put it on the fence facing there yard...No Shooting Toward This Property Or Over This Property. Even the air for so many feet above your property is yours..I don't know about your area but this is what real estate agents have told me...why can you not press charges of tresspassing against them also?? Check it out.

I know everyone's first response is to get angry at these crazy sounding people but....
did something happen that somehow allows them to justify this in their own mind? How would they describe the issue? They may just be nutters that you should move away from or the situation may be workable if you approach it in a different way. Write them a letter and let them know how much you love your dogs, what their names are etc. Make a peace offering or do something that might help them out. If you tried that and they are still acting crazy, try your best to NOT retaliate in a negative way (even though it is REALLY tempting). They may be people that actually feed off of conflict or attention. Smile, say good morning. Send them a valentines card. Okay, that might be pushing it but you get the idea. Do not let your family get sucked down into their level of abuse. You may also want to involve the rest of your community. Is there a community association that can mediate? Also, inviting people over a lot to be in your yard and sort of stake your territory and show that life is continuing as normal might be helpful too. Your situation sounds really stressful -network with your friends to get some support. Last case scenario, sue them for harassment, vet bills etc. I hope things work out.

I can't believe how horrible and mean people can actually be to defenseless animals!! That is just cruel!! Anyway, I would do exactly what you are doing. Get a camera, tape, (maybe call your neighbour and ask her why she's shooting your dog and secretly tape her....maybe she'll admit to it), keep a log book and just keep taping! I don't know what I'd do if my neighbour was shooting at my dog!! That is absolutley ridiculous! Can't you let your dogs out and have your camera in hand and tape it as you call your dogs back fast?! All you should need is evidence I would think, but still, I think the animal control or the police should be there to help you!! Good luck!

Let your husband go over there! j/k

If you catch them again instead of running to the yard shouting get them on tape. Get a camera, take a few shots. You have a lawsuit for animal cruelty - 3 years in prison and a few thousand dollars in fines.

Set up a video camera or just have one handy. But you have to get some evidence. Then call the cops, show them the tape and then contact a lawyer.

Or you can plant some poison Ivy so when they get close enough to shoot your dogs they'll be in for a surprise. Maybe an electric fence so they're shocked or possibly electricuted. Okay I'll be nice....

Good Luck

In addition to agreeing with everyone about trying to catch them on camera, make sure that you take pictures of the spots on your animals where they were shot, make sure the date and time is either writen on it by hand if it's a polariod, or a date stamped camera. Alos keep a journal of when these things happen, what time of day, which animal they hit, where they were hit, and who was doing it. Put as many details in there as possible, when you go to court, you can submit your journal as evidence along with the video footage. Once you have them on camera, your journal will verify that it has been going on for some time and not just a recent occurance. They will get put away for a long time and very heavily fined depending on which state you live in. Good luck. Also, you could borrow a video camera instead of having to buy one, ask your friends if you could borrow one for a week, this should give you enough time to get them several times on tape. You really want three or four different instances of them doing this over several days to prove it's been a deliberate and long standing issue.

Either call the neighbors on the phone, turn on your ans mach to record the call and ask what the f is going on with the bb gun or go over there with a tape recorder on and do the same in person. You can let them know they are being recorded or not ...if they are totally nutters they'll say anything they want no matter what you do. Something is amiss when i read that you have allowed the abuse to all your animals to go on for 3 full years! Are you a tad nutters yourself? ONE shot into MY yard at my animals and they would have had me in their faces! I don't get the 3 year wait! Animal control? Police? no one doing their job? makes me wonder if they are or aren't something is wrong with this scenario...sorry

Call a lawyer and press charges. Put up video cameras (where they cant see them but where the cameras can catch all the actions) and sue those bastards for all they are worth. SHooting a dog for no reason (being on their property is the only legal reason to shoot a dog) is a crime and is animal abuse. If you can't afford to have a lawyer or cameras I'd get rid of the dogs better to give a dog to a safe home then let them get shot by jerks.

If you are there to witness, take pictures, then call the cops. If they can't do anything take the pictures to Animal control. If that does not get the ball rolling, then go to the magistrates office and see about pressing charges using the photos as evidence. Also take pictures of any bb's you may find in your yard. Without evidence there is no case. Keep a journal of each attack, the more evidence you have the better the case against them.

What a horrible neighbor you have. Why is she shooting your dogs? Are they going on her property or making too much noise? If you've gone to the police and the animal control agent I don't know what else to tell you to do. Maybe you need to hop the fence and give her a really good beating? She'll call the police and you'll get in trouble, but I bet she'll think twice about shooting your dogs again.
