Why are there so many religions when there is only one holy bible and yet there are so many versions to it? I am so confused. I have just recently started to read the bible and going to church, bible studies, etc. Why do some religions tell you, you can't celebrate this or you can't do this on this day? I just don't understand all that? The church I attend is a baptist church, I really enjoy this church because it is nothing like the"Do's and Don'ts". The pastor preaches directly out of the bible and not out of the religion..I like that..and they don't expect nothing more of you than what you already are. Me, I say I am a catholic but I'm only by word of mouth, I don't know anything of this religion only know of Lent. I am just confused on the religion issue.
If this doen's make any sense I apologize, I am new at this.

I know it says in the bible in you do not ask the Lord to forgive all of your sins and not ask for Him to save you, you are condemned. How many of you are saved?

there are so many religion because cultures arise out their natural environment. the Bible god is a desert deity and all the laws attributed to him were designed for the survival and cohesiveness of tribes of nomadic goat herders. the Christian religion is a Pagan (Roman) based overlay on those ancient desert traditions.
the Catholic form of Christianity comes straight out of Rome and is closer to the original Christianity (via Paul) than any of the modern Christian sects. the first and original Christians were Jewish and one had to be a Jew or convert to Judaism in order to be a Christian. Paul changed all that by undermining Hebrew law and Constantine then converted to Christianity and spread it by force with his armies.

Because there has always been some form of a belief system that didn't sit well with a groups views. Some christian faiths don't allow dancing even though the bible says to sing and dance. It has always been a matter of what the founding members of the church originally believed should go into their faiths. You should find one that is suited to your needs and your own personal belief system. I believe in God but I am a practicing Pagan. I believe that while God is the Creator of all things, the earth and elements have their own power too. I believe that spirits are around us all the time to guide us, as angels do. I just don't believe in the way organized religion has been twisted to suit what someone wants.

well due to the differences in cultures and ethinicities there are many different points of view about how people should live their lives now as for why christianity is so broken up has to do with the protestant reformation led by martin luther not the i had a dream marthin luther anyway there was a division in the church according to how the religion should be ran anyway martin luther felt that things should be ran based on scriptures alone which is what's known as sola scriptura anyway that's what leasd to christianity being broken up into catholicism and protestantism and is why ther are so many different sect and denominations in protestantism as each person views something in the bible differently from the next person which in turn confuses people like you and many others in this world so don't feel bad about that at all here are some links to verify what i am saying

You asked "Why so many religions?" when your question should have been "Why so many CHRISTIAN denominations?" Remember, not everyone on the R&S board are Christians.
In answer to your question, there is not just one answer. It is partly due to differences in interpretations, and partly due to some denominations simply not following parts of the Bible. Some churches teach their interpretations as Gospel. For example, I was raised in the Church of Christ. They teach that you are not to use instrumental music in the worship, yet the Bible nowhere teaches that. That is simply an example of that church teaching their interpretation as if it were Gospel.

Because only three religions out of the more then 10,000 are based on such. You have completely over looked the fact that most religions are not even based on Middle Eastern monotheism, only the "big three".
People have different religions because not everyone sees the world in the same way, and that's how it should be.

After the death of Jesus and the apostles there was no central leadership for the christian religion. This is called the great apostasy. What happened was everyone was left on their own to do what they think best. Since many people reading the same book will interpret it differently this caused tons of different ideas about Christianity to come into play. It has just gotten worse over the centuries since.

The bible only applies to the abrahamic religions; there are far more religions in the world.
You can use the belief-o-matic to help you find one that's right for you:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
or just read The God Delusion (email or IM me if you don't have a copy handy), understand what makes religions work, and be done with them for life.

Because everybody wants to be the one who told you about how cool God is. So they all decided that to be an authority they had to come up with their own special bible or variation on the theme. That way, they have the special inside track on the lord.
But, it's simply dogma piled up on more dogma. You can read and read and listen and spin your wheels but it will only serve to confuse.
Just keep it simple.

Only one version in the orginal languages (Hebrew and Greek), but many translations. If you don't want to learn Hebrew and Greek, then you'll have to do some comparison between versions if you question a passage.

Each Christian denomination (Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, etc.) was established because somebody didn't like the others by laws so created their own. Its different, but all the same.
