Animals Accused Of Chewing On Baby's Toes To Be Adopted

Jan 23, 2007 02:29 PM
KSLA News 12 has an update to the story about the one-month-old baby whose toes were chewed off by one of two family pets.
Homes have now been found for the pit bull puppy and the ferret. Both animals have been at the Bossier City Animal Control Office since the baby was injured back in December.
The pit bull will be adopted by a pit bull rescue group, while a ferret rescue group will take the other animal. Both places are out of state.
It will be a few weeks for before the pit bull will go to its new home. The shelter is waiting for the puppy to get a little older so it can be neutered.
Police say the baby's parents were asleep as the baby sat beside them in a car seat. Sometime that morning, one of the animals chewed off four of the baby's toes.
The parents pled guilty to a charge of child desertion and agreed to let their animals be put up for adoption.
It's unclear right now if the baby has been returned to the parents or is staying with other relatives.

The Hansches have pleaded guilty to improper child supervision. They have been released after spending 3 ½ weeks in jail. They have been fined $100 each and required to give up their pets and attend parenting classes before they can try to regain custody of their children.

Bossier District Judge Johnny Robinson admonished the couple, "Your punishment will be ongoing every time you look at the baby's feet."

I do of course feel very sorry for the baby...however...it's amazing how people want to automatically blame the pup instead of the parents. Puppies will chew on anything, especially if it's moving. This story would have had a different tone to it if it was any other breed but a pit, or even a rott.

I would guess that the ferret done it anyway. I didn't know it was in Bossier City that it happened...people in Louisiana are crazy anyway!

OMG i do not understand! My bf and that i spoke of that on the information and freaked! we would want to completely undertake this canine if given the threat. We have already got a rottie and can want to love yet another addition to the kin. besides, who of their top ideas leaves a pup and a toddler interior of an identical room mutually without supervision lengthy adequate for a pup to get so bored and/or hungry that it chews on a toddler's feet! No ones ever heard of teething? (The pup I mean.) And the mum and/or dad did not listen the toddler screaming because the pup chewed this is feet off? Yeah top. i imagine the mothers and fathers are responsible, no longer the pup.
