It certainly retains that distinction.

Some answerer would apparently like to see Israel eliminated. Israel has built a barrier (not a "wall") to separate Israel proper from their peace-loving cousins. Perhaps he has forgotten the suicide bomber who killed three Israelis in the last week by infiltrating into Israel and blowing himself up. Well, there were many more frequent instances of Islamic terrorists murdering innocent Israeli citizens until the barrier went up. When it is finally completed, the murderous attacks should be reduced even further.

If he thinks that this is a sign of a bad neighbor, how does he rate the Arab terrorists?

It is entirely unsafe for a Jew to walk in Ramallah or Jenin. He would likely be killed by one of his Arab "cousins."

And it should be noted that there is no place in the Middle East called "Palestine." What had been Palestine was divided among the Arabs (80 percent of Palestine, now called Jordan) and the Jews (20 percent of Palestine, now called Israel).

Jihadists today invoke the Quran to justify the worst terrorist crimes. Throat slitting of infidels is mentioned in the Quran. Al-Mawardi (d. 1058), the prominent 11th century jurist quoted this verse, specifically, « When you encounter those who deny (the Truth) then strike (their) necks. » (Quran 47 :4), in his learned discussion of jihad. This ritual execution is also mentioned in other Muslim legal texts and in narratives of Christian and prominent Muslim historians. Today it is performed against infidels and recorded on videotape for the edification of Muslim audiences.

I believe they are his chosen people but why do you say he is punishing them? They have rejected him (JESUS) and turned to their own ways. God has not destroyed them, it's a matter of fact he brought them back from a scattered nation to the solid nation we see today.

God is not the Palestinians, God is not Saudi Arabia, God is not Egypt, God is not Russia, God is not all the other Arab nations that hate Israel. If anything I think God has blessed Israel even though they rejected his Son by protecting them and giving them enormous power.

One day they will accept Gods Son and then they will truly be blessed as his chosen children.

Don't mistake or mis represent man's work as God's. Man tried to kill all the Jews, man wishes still to wipe them off the face of the earth.

Soon you will see an attack on Israel by Russia, Iran and many other Arab and Asian nations but God will stop them (DEAD) in their tracks. Then all people will know that the God of Israel is very much on their side.

How does He punish Israel?

I spend last year in Israel and did not feel punished. When I arrived to Israel, I fell to the ground a kissed the land it was as almost being absorbed in God's spirit. When I prayed at the Wailing Wall I almost cried because I felt the presence of god. When I studied in the yeshiva (seminary) out of my window I could see where the temple once stood and again I felt God's presence.
I was in Israel when Lebanon invaded and caught those two soldiers (May they be returned safely to their families) and I still felt safe as I volunteered in Northern Israel and in Sderot a city that was being shot on daily basis. Yet, the city is still standing and the Jews continue to study there in seminaries and work and whatever else.
When the rockets fall into Israel it is not the act of God. Terrorism it is not the act of God. These are just actions of deranged people who are more absorbed in hate then in love. As Golda Meier once said, "When the Arab mothers learn to love their children more then they hate the Jews only then there could be peace." I only know of Muslim mothers who can tell their children that it is okay to become a suicide bomber and when he/she dies in killing someone the mother throws a party of martyrdom.
If you want to know the act of God over Israel then look how Israel handles itself. It has the technology and the know how to eradicate all Palestinians, Muslims, and all who stand on their way. Yet, they restrain themselves. That is the act of God. We have more Jews studying in yeshivot (seminaries) then before even beating the days of the Torah.
So, my dear friend God did not abandon Israel He is with Israel.

God helped to re-establish the nation of Israel in 1948. God has not been punishing Israel. That is the result of evil in the world, such as the muslims.

I just read this last night:

Matthew 21:33-34 (Message) 33-34"Here's another story. Listen closely. There was once a man, a wealthy farmer, who planted a vineyard. He fenced it, dug a winepress, put up a watchtower, then turned it over to the farmhands and went off on a trip. When it was time to harvest the grapes, he sent his servants back to collect his profits.
35-37"The farmhands grabbed the first servant and beat him up. The next one they murdered. They threw stones at the third but he got away. The owner tried again, sending more servants. They got the same treatment. The owner was at the end of his rope. He decided to send his son. 'Surely,' he thought, 'they will respect my son.'

38-39"But when the farmhands saw the son arrive, they rubbed their hands in greed. 'This is the heir! Let's kill him and have it all for ourselves.' They grabbed him, threw him out, and killed him.

40"Now, when the owner of the vineyard arrives home from his trip, what do you think he will do to the farmhands?"

41"He'll kill them—a rotten bunch, and good riddance," they answered. "Then he'll assign the vineyard to farmhands who will hand over the profits when it's time."

42-44Jesus said, "Right—and you can read it for yourselves in your Bibles:

The stone the masons threw out
is now the cornerstone.
This is God's work;
we rub our eyes, we can hardly believe it!
"This is the way it is with you. God's kingdom will be taken back from you and handed over to a people who will live out a kingdom life. Whoever stumbles on this Stone gets shattered; whoever the Stone falls on gets smashed."

This parable shows that God gave the land the Jewish people and he sent his servents (John the Baptist for example) and they killed them....so then He decided to send His Son because they should respect the Son of God but instead they rejected Him and killed Him and for that God took His kingdom from them

Israel is the chosen nation? Last time I checked they had women and children Palestinian slaved left and right, a class I drug is produced almost solely in the country and distributed around the world, and many other pretty twisted behavior from the government. Damn, God sure does have bad taste.
