am having pain in my backside of the head [u can say the joint of skull and the neck]. the first time it was like sudden pain in the back neck area with little dizziness. someone suggested me it can be spondylitis. But when i checked the yahoo answers and othe related medical sites it says the symptoms are pain in the vertebrae or the lower oint of vertibrae and pelvic. Nowhere it is mentioned on the neck area. so am confused. is it spondylitis or anyother disease?

It could be spondylosis. It's similar, but spondylitis is a specific term for a type of damage that occurs in the lumbar spine and pelvis. I have both.

But the only way that you can know for certain what is going on and what's causing it (there can be multiple causes, some of them much more dangerous than others), is to see your doctor. You may also be referred from there to a rheumatologist or a neurologist. From either of those, you might even be referred to a neurosurgeon. That, however, would only happen if this requied some type of surgical intervention. That's not always the case. And sometimes when it is the case, the surgery is deemed to be too risky to attempt.

Whatever you do, don't ignore this. Don't make excuses to not see your doctor or to wait to see your doctor. Not unless you really want to risk killing someone because you suddenly get dizzy or black out behind the wheel.

You could have DDD, which is Degenerative Disc Disease, it may also be arthritis. If looking for info on the spine at clue to the area you want info about would be listed like this........C1,C2,C3-those would mean Cervical(neck)level1,level2,level3. If the info is about the upper back it would read as T1-T2-T3, which is Thorasic(upper/mid back)level1,level2,level3. The lower back information would be Lumbar(lower back)level 1, level2,level3. DDD is where the discs dry up causing the vertabrae to rub and the nerves irritated. Arthritis would cause stiffing of the joints. Both can cause severe pain. If the pain is mainly in the neck you will probably be going to physical therapy. If the nerves are damaged/irritated/inflamed, you will likely be going for MRI, EMG(nerve conduction test)and CT scans. When all the info is gathered, your doctor and you can decide what to do. Good luck.
