As a 23 year Army Vet, I say thanks! I'm in Iraq now. My sons are also serving. Go Airborne Ranger - or wait if you are not ready physically and mentally. If I may offer some advice along with congratulations. Take your basic and MOS training seriously. Learn all you can. Get all your personal affairs in order back home. Always be a professional and don't let anyone influence you into doing anything you know is wrong. Learn about promotions and how the system works, so you can move up the ladder and make some money. Take advantage of the educational benefits. Let your family know you love them. God bless you.

Congratulations on choosing to serve! Keep your eyes open and your mouth closed, and basic will be a whole lot easier. Try to learn from other people's mistakes as much as possible. Try to learn everything you can and do not be afraid to ask questions if you don't get it the first time. There is a very real chance that the lessons you learn will be field tested within the next 6 months, so pay very close attention.

Good luck and God speed!

for basic training. It's pretty tough being away from home and loved ones, usually for the first time and you probably won't be able to call anyone for awhile. You have to remember that the military tears you down to build you up in their image. So be strong, be prepared to get up real early, be prepared to do a lot of push ups, etc. Listen carefully to everything the Sgt. says and be respectful and do exactly what and when you are told to do it. Take a lot of envelopes that are already stamped and a tablet and write home or to friends a lot. Be neat, clean, tidy, take a deep breath and keep telling yourself there's only so many days left and you ar the strongest SOB on Earth. God speed. And thanks.

I left the Army 17 years ago after 6 year in. I have regreted that I did not retire. Had I to do it again I would have stayed untill retirement. My time in the army was the best of times and the worst of times but times that I will never forget.
Thanks for your service God Bless and make health and fortune follow you through the rest of your days.

Welcome to the club! Stay motivated and strong through basic training, and remember that it's only temporary pain. Keep your PT up, take your correspondence courses, and volunteer for things (AFTER you get out of Basic!!!) a lot. Good luck, and I hope to see you 'round.

When you get to Iraq (Yes, you are going - Don't fool yourself), visit the PX at Camp Liberty, as it's the best damn PX in the world so far as I'm concerned.

I think you made a major life decision. You will find out things about yourself that you would never have found out any other way. You will learn to put your life in the hands of others as well as how to deal with the fact that others have placed their lives in yours.

You will be forever changed.

My prayers go with you.

Did you join to be praised? Or did you join because you want to serve America?...hum....I'll let you decide. I joined because this is something I want to do for myself; and my country-and be praised isn't part of it-or at least important to me. As long as I do my job and preform it to the best of my ability, and do it right-that's all that matters. Good luck though, have fun getting beat sessions...you're in for a rude awakening. But, seriously good luck-it's fun.
