Between April 17,1862 and May 18, 1864 20 major Civil War battles and engagements were fought in on Louisiana soil. Lives were upturned and destroyed. Tragedy and bravery gave way to bittersweet success and failure grand beyond imaginings.
The Prize: Control of the mighty Mississippi River.
The Cost: Immeasurable.

Another state filled with traitors that joined the confederacy so they could keep there slaves. As such they were invaded the primary target being New Orleans and the Mississippi river. The traitors sent troops to most of the battles fought during the Civil war. In the end the Louisiana regiments were destroyed one by one until they were combat ineffective and surrendered when Gen. Lee did or shortly after.

Well, Louisiana had the city of New Orleans, which was a major seaport. It became a goal of the Union forces to recapture this port - which gave them access to the south via the seas, and to also control the Mississippi River, which had its mouth nearby.

Well, I see brian l is showing his utter lack of education and knowledge on the War Between the States.
I believe it was Abraham Lincoln who said: "It is best to remain silent and thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."
Words to live by, brian. Words to live by.
