Common symptoms of strep throat in children and adults include:
Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other coldlike symptoms.
Pain or difficulty with swallowing.
Fever over 101° (38.3°); lower fevers may indicate a viral infection and not strep.
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils.
Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat.
Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection.

Symptoms vary per the individual. But the common symptoms are a very sore throat with a mild to medium-high fever. Some people get swollen lymph nodes, usually around the neck or under the ears. Usually, the doctor will look in your throat and determin if he/she needs to swab for strep if you have white spots in your throat. If you have secondary symptoms such as nausea or other weirdness, you may have strep with the flu or some other bug. Many viral infections can piggyback along with strep infections. Your doctor will probably proscribe Penicillin Vk.
I had chronic strep infections from the ages of 5 until I was 21 because I had chronic tonsilitis and my mom wouldn't let the doctors yank my tonsils (religious frenzy). When I was 18, I got a bad strep infection in my sinuses and ears and ended up with mono (apparently, strep/mono is fairly common) and was sick for 4 months. When I was 21, I got a bad step infection that went on for almost a year. After being sick as a dog for about a year and losing my voice for about 6 months, I was finally sent to an ENT specialist. Dude took one look at my throat and yanked my tonsils out the following week. Haven't had strep, or any sinus problems, since then. Life is good.

Dogs do not get strep throat, but they may harbor Streptococcus pyogenes (also called Group A strep, what causes strep throat) from being around humans. They serve as a CARRIER of it for human infections. So, the dog should be treated when a family member has strep throat, especially if recurring infections occur.

Older children generally look and feel awful with strep throat! They can have high fevers, very painful throats, often severe difficulty swallowing, and pus which can sometimes be seen covering the tonsils. These complaints mean that the child should see the doctor right away, as distinguishing viral and bacterial causes of tonsil infection is very important for correct treatment of the infection.

Strep can cause a variety of symptoms, just so you know, no two person's symptoms are all alike. You will definitely have fever, may or may not have cold and flu like symptoms. Strep is not easily diagnosed without a culture of the throat done. It can be confused with just having a sore throat.

Well, the obvious is a very sore throat. Other symptons consist of fever. My daughter had it 4 times in 3 months last year. I always knew it was strep because her stomach hurt. I've heard other people say they knew they're child had because their ears would get really red. Also, if you can get someone to look at your troat with a flashlight, look for white spots on the tonsils. Also, strep has a certain odor to it. You don't usually have cold symptons with strep.

Increased temperature and persistent dry, scratchy throat- if it lasts for more than 4 - 5 days (and continues to get worse) then there's a distinct possibility that you have it.
