I think from the christian perspective its because he opposes God, and according to the bible God is supposedly more powerful than Satan, its a fear thing alright. I was a christian. I know how they think. They would defend God and pin it on Satan, even though thier bible tells a tale they dont want to listen to.

#1, look at the condition the world is in. Then think about what 1 John 5:19 says - "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one". Put 2 and 2 together and you get that Satan has caused this mess we are in not God.
God has killed more people than Satan? I think not.
Romans 5:12 tells us that through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin and thus death spread to all man because they had all sinned.
That one man was Adam. So with one gigantic lie, Satan put a death sentence on every human ever born.

Rational explanation: when they were making up this stuff, they needed a very powerful and fear-inducing god. The murders of millions of people were written to scare folks into obedience. Satan is used as the bad guy. He is evil because that's in the script.
Irrational theist explanation: misinterpretation, mysterious ways, not literal, and/or god can do whatever god wants because it's god
I believe the misinterpretation and the mysterious ways answers will suffice. (Ie, something about not understanding etc etc). The last obligatory answer can justify killing infants and animals in a worldwide flood due to some adults "sinning."

There is a reason why God did what He did in the OT. Read it and you will see. As far as satan being worse than God, or vice versa, God has been and always will be GOOD. God made provisions for us, so that we may have eternal life through Jesus Christ if we accept it. As it says in His Word, He wishes no one to perish. Satan does not want us to have eternal life, he does not want us to follow God. He does everything he can to keep us from doing what is right. Satan does not care if we perish or not. He looks at it like if he can get as many people away from God as possible, he is winning. For me, I would much rather be on God's side.

Satan wanted to provide a competitive product. He wanted to create Earth 2.0 for the mac and God didn't like that. That's why Satan is considered evil.

Satan temps people away from God, when they give in to Satan, they oppose God as well. In laymens terms... There are parents and parents bless their children as well as discipline them. Sometimes the kids are encouraged to go against their parents by a "friend". When the children do what the friend says instead of what their parents say, the children are punished. Now ... who is worse? The "friend" or the parents?

Righteouness does not turn a blind eye towards evil forever. Evil and sin must be judged. If God is Holy and Just, He must punish sin. If you say, "No!" to that then that is insanity. If someone rapes & kills your daughter or sister or wife or girlfriend and you seek justice on their behalf, are you evil? If the law of society seeks justice on their behalf, is the law evil? Of course not.
God is merciful and generous but He also punishes evil and sin. To compare God to satan is like comparing the sun to a melting icecicle. There is no comparison.
However I get the impression that you are just wanting to mock Christians and are not interested in the subject. It's appears that you do not fear or love God.

Satan works for the Bible god. the Bible god created Satan to test humankind. funny thing that the Bible god would punish Satan for being what he was created to be but the Bible god has a very strange sense of justice.
even when i was a Christian i felt sorry for Satan. what a raw deal he got. created to rebel, created to be the scapegoat for all of man's foibles, created from the get go to be damned.
and no. IMO Satan is a saint compared to his creator. the Bible god creates evil and then blames his creations for being what they are.

Dear Mr. M. Machine
Satan can be considered evil for various reasons.
One would be he is a liar.
Genesis 3:4 records his first example.
Jesus referred to him as "the father of the lie." John 8:44.
On the other hand, lying is something God finds impossible.
Hebrews 6:18.
There are other examples ....but all in the same vein.

It isn't solely the fact that Satan opposes God that makes him evil. The created rebelled and supposed he was better than the creator. That is the inherent evil in Satan. Satan's pride is what caused him to be cast from God's presence.
God is complete and omni-everything. What I mean by that statement is that God is unchanging and not seeking for any completeness in any aspect of His being. He is the epitome of all attributes that are attributed to Him in the Bible. He is therefore omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent... omni of course coming from the Latin to mean completely, wholly, without lacking, universally... and using this omni prefix we can also call him omni-loving, omni-just, omni-holy, and the list goes on.
Satan on the other hand is going down in the end... He probably understands this for he knows scripture (shown when he quoted it to Jesus during the 40 days in the wilderness)... unless he is so deluded that he thinks he will prove God's truth wrong in regards to his destiny. Regardless of whether he knows or not, his desire is to take down as many people down with him as he can. You can see this same behavior in prideful humans. Bullies and basic humans with poor qualities love to bring people down to their level to make themselves feel better and to make provide some company.
