If your a painter then you have to realise that you have to spend some money on a webpage and hosting inorder to get some serious regonition, otherwise your bound to get run over by someone who presents themself much nicer on the internet sale wise

Get yourself a free blog - try blogger.com for one.
Discuss and show your paintings there.
Get your site listed on Daily Painters or similar.
Sell your paintings directly or through ebay.

Have a look at http://www.dailypainters.com/ and follow through to some of the artists. Many sell their paintings this way.

You got to be creative man.... I suggest posting your work thru various methods not just one method in particular, for example... ebay, but thats just the beginning, you can also do a slide show movie and then post it in youtube.com, there the amount of exposure you can get is crazy. Especially, by art enthusiasts who will look at your artwork and like it, they can tell their friends to go check it out... and word of mouth starts circulating fast!! but you also should also have a website to direct them (potential buyers) to your work in further detail.... I hope this helps, good luck!!

p.s. I sure would like to see your artwork, what kind of stuff you paint?
