What should i say to a girl that i met in another country?

I met this friend of mine in college in San Francisco. We have talked and we went out for dinner while we were still in school. After graduation, I stayed back briefly in S.F while she went back to Japan. We have been exchanging emails and i can't really think of a good topic to talk to her about. I have been sending the same old " How are you doing?" and "how's your work" type of emails but i am worried that i am running out of good ideas. Guys, what should i write next?
