Hi there,
I’m not sure if there someone out there that can help me. I notice that these day’s people have more choices to healthier restaurant. The big thing in Canada right now is Asian food or Vietnamese. There soups are just fabulous and filling, is there someone out there that can tell me if there a lot a calories in there soup. They also have spring rolls that are made with rice paper. Are they a lot of calories?
Here are the ingredients in the soup. Following is the recipe for the spring rolls.
•Beef Broth:
•1 small onion, chopped
•1 2-inch stick ginger
•2 pounds beef bones
•12 cups water
•6 star anise
•1 teaspoon salt
•1 teaspoon sugar
•1 pound lean, tender beef
•Noodles:
•1 16-ounce package dry, flat rice noodles (pho)
•Garnish:
•3 scallions, thinly sliced
•1 large onion, thinly sliced
•10 cilantro sprigs, finely chopped
•1 cup bean sprouts
•10 sprigs basil
•10 sprigs fresh culantro (ngo gai)
•fresh red or green chile pepper, thinly sliced
•Accompaniments
•lime or lemon quarters
•fish sauce
•hoisin sauce
•hot chile sauce
Rice Paper Rolls with spicy passion fruit sauce


8 - 6 inch round rice paper sheets8 leaves of coriander
2 oz bean thread vermicelli
3 medium carrots, julienned
1 red pepper, julienned
2 green onions, julienned
½ cup bean sprouts
8 fresh mint leaves

Thank you everyone for your answers. I previous gave the recipes for the ingredients I wanted to know the RESTAURANT soup is there a lot of calories in there soup?

beef based broths are loaded with fats and transfats, suggest if you want to go the vietnamese route, have the chicken based soups and limit them, as they too have alot of fat, but much less transfats.
Personally, I use fat free chicken broth and put all the goodies in that, tastes about the same and I don't have to guess about the salt and fat that are in it.

Vietnamese food is awesome, especially the Beef noodles. However, the soup contains lots of fat (and MSG) so I would not drink too much of it. As for the rolls, I assume you mean the Summer Rolls. The spring rolls are deep fried in oil, like egg rolls. Summer rolls are very low in fat, but be careful how much peanut sauce you dip!
