I have heard mixed things from people on this. I hear you should do strength exercies every other day to allow the muscles to rest and rebuild. Other people tell me they do situps every day and they have the stomachs to prove it . My question is, what is the most effective and healthy way to do crunches? Should I do it every other day or every day?

Dude! You need to do more than crunches and waist sit ups. But I always recommend that you do it every other day.

you can do them as often as you possibly can. your muscles will rebuild overnight while you sleep, no matter if you rested the day before or not. if your looking for abs the best thing to do is weighted crunches. this is where you put weights on your ankles and while on your back turn your right elbow into your left knee, and vise versa the other way, several times. the faster and lower you can lay your legs parrallel to the ground the more effective it will be. you can do this without weights but ive found it MUCH more effective. also running and speed jumprope is very effective.

You can do crunches everyday if you would like. It will not hurt you. However, doing strength exercises on your abs is a different story. Crunches activate the muscle fibers used for stamina and endurance, not strength. When you put some heavy weight on your abs then it will activate different muscle fibers. I would not recommend doing strengthening exercises on the same muscle everyday. Do all the crunches you want though. Have fun.

Everyone's body responds to exercise routines differently. Suggest that you cross train. Do your situps and crunches everyother day, and on the in between days do some good cardio workouts, then you get the best of both worlds, health and physical fitness.
