If he put the chips in with the chips mom buys & that are free for the taking, then it's his fault. Don't worry too much about it. If you could've realised that they might be his, or it was a huge family bag & you ate it all, then maybe you could be a bit more considerate too, but that doesn't really seem to be the case here. Just tell him it's safer when he takes such food to his room or puts a note on it with his name, just in case you don't have your psychic abilities turned on! :)

They expect you to be a mind reader. I don't understand it either. When I want people to stay out of something, I keep it in my bedroom. If someone asks me if they can have some, I usually say "yes". But there are times I put things in the pantry that I have bought for myself just so people will help me eat it so I won't eat it all by myself. :)

LOL. I learned my lesson early in life... if you didn't SAY it and WRITE it, your food was gone. Whether it was a bag of chips, cupcakes for school the next day, a cake made like a volcano... it didn't matter. It's like a war zone in some fridges!

Because most people cannot afford to buy another fridge to keep their food in. It is common extiquette to ask if something is being saved.

the proper thing to do is to ask before you go chowing down at someone's house.
may i have an oreo?
were you saving this cheese dip?

i mean, where else should they have put it...in their bathroom??
