As a former Catholic I don't remember ever hearing discussions about people like: St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Bernard of Clairvaux or Hildegard Von Bingen. It wasn't until I got into college that I started to learn about this crowd. I wish I had been introduced to their writings earlier.

It's kind of scary to mainstream people. It's easier to just think about the things we can see/taste/touch/hear/smell. I loved the writings of St. John of the Cross. People always fear what they don't understand. So they ignore/neglect to talk about it.
