The Bible tells us to turn the other cheek because the Lord will fight the battles for us if we don't turn the other cheek then we are being evil whether we know it or not. God warns the people in Psalms 105:15 "Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm." Then He lets us know that if we are harmed that we are not to fear because in Romans 12:19 "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. " Meaning just remain humble I got your back.

Where in the bible does it say God wants us all to be limp wet noodles, letting anyone who wants, harm or over run us? He wants brave souls to stand against Satan.
Anyone committing really bad crime is to be sent to God immediately, and God will deal with them. Can't remember the exact verse, but Num 35:16 talks about capital punishment.
What about the rod? 2Sam7:14
One opinion I heard about turning the other cheek: Jesus was referring to the way a slave was smote, with the backhand. Some say Jesus meant Hit me Like a Man, not like a slave.
All I know for sure is we are graced with the mercy of Gods forgiveness, if truley in our hearts we repent and try to do better.
So many folks don't know that grace, represented by the number 5, means undeserved blessings.

I think there's a lot of Atheists and Agnostics who believe there should (should have) been retaliation for 9/11. Did you assume that only Christians want that?

First of all, the man who said that about Hugo Chavez (You know his name) clearly has his own agenda in mind. (Apostate comes to my mind.) People say ANYTHING to create attention. Mass media. But what is the true purpose? We don't really know except him. And as far as 9-11, those things escalated during CLINTONS time in office. Even HE tried to mention something about it. (The "Clinton and the Wag The Dog accusations.")

Jesus, turn the other cheek was implying to be able to forgive and give another chance. Saying that, how do you explain to someone who was asleep in their bed and milita broke in and killed the family. The man was left alive and remarried and the same malitia broke in again. You are asked to turn the other cheek, but there is also a saying slap me one shame on me, slap me twice shame on you. Goes both ways.

Because turning the other cheek is against human nature; and as much as some Christians (such as Pat Robertson) like to think they are above human nature, they aren't. They don't practice what they preach.

What you consider to be a 'Major Christian leader' is not really a 'Christian' because turning the other cheek is a must for those who want to please God and enter into His kingdom.
Jesus said that not everyone who says 'Lord,Lord' will enter into His kingdom because they know His commandments and yet do not obey them.

Good point. As sad as it may sound, unfortunately it's reality: most Christians bear grudges and never turn the other cheek, and those are the ones I call 'Christians from force of habit';)

Popular Christian behavior has nothing to do with what's written in the bible. This may seem irrational to some, but you're talking about people who believe in virgin births to supernatural beings, worldwide floods, and living forever.

we are all human and although Jesus said not to retaliat it is only natural to wont to protect your family. there is another side to the saying in that to the romans that would have been an insult, Jesus was a radical in his day.
