I too am a very active individual who had this problem for awhile. The solution that worked best for me was trying to squeeze in a late night meal (lots of carbs usually) and a protein shake. Your metabolism is slowest at night so you won't burn off those calories as easily, just make sure to stay active to keep that extra weight lean.

You just need to remember two words:

"Eat more".

Track how many calories you eat, and plan to eat more than that. Keep increasing it until you're gaining about one pound a week, which is a fairly safe rate of weight gain.

You can use fitday.com to keep track of how much you eat each day and each week.

Just thought I should add that you also need exercise. Remember it this way:

Eat to gain weight.
Exercise to choose what to gain.

In other words, just eating more will get you fat, and just exercising won't get you bigger. If you want muscle growth (I'm guessing you do) you need some sort of activity that encourages that. Weight lifting is probably the best.

Well I really couldn't give you a great answer, but mybe advice. Stay at home for a day and eat, eat and eat so you will have time to let your food settle and make you try and gain weight.
