There are definite similarities in the way the 2 wars were/are being fought. In this war, like the last, the civilian politicians are making the decisions about what can and can't be done, sacrificing what may be the most tactically sound decision that the Generals and commanders come up with. The worry about collateral damage and civilian casualties has determined that only certain tactics will be used. I am sure there were numerous occasions that we could have bombed a building, killing many terrorists (and high-ranking ones at that), but since it was near civilian houses or a mosque, we were forced to just let it go. Even with laser-guided and "smart" bombs, the blasts involved may damage other non-targets. In my humble opinion, Iraq is like North Jersey. In North Jersey, you may not be in the Mafia, but you know where you can find someone who is. In Iraq, you may not BE a terrorist, but you damn well sure know who is. What is more important to Americans? What is the ratio for loss of life to be acceptable? Is losing 1 American life worse than 1 Iraqi life? Is 1 American to 10 Iraqis more "worth it"? I'd rather they ALL be killed before we lose one more American. Thinking otherwise almost seems treasonous.

Just as an aside...anyone ever hope (like I do) that the 72 virgins the suicide bombers are promised are all men?

Website, I do not know. You will likely need to read about the vietnam war, find the similarities between it and the current situation in Iraq.

I wrote a paper as an undergrad comparing the presidency of Johnson and Bush. They were very similar, but I had to really dig to find the similarities.

I would be careful using websites as sources. Books are still the number one source of information for college papers.

Vietnam war was a result of the closing of WW2 when Vietnam was returned to France rather than given independence. When Vietnam split into Communist North and Pro Western South Vietnam. North Vietnam invaded south Vietnam and the USA and a number of Allies sent troops to defend the south. USA, Australia, South Korea. The north used largely infiltration and guerrilla tactics to prosecute the war. The South and it allies out of fear of escalating the war never attempted to destroy the enemy. By this I mean to seek out and destroy the north Vietnamese army and occupy all of Vietnam.
In Iraq the objective was to remove the government of Saddam Hussein and destroy the fighting capability of Iraq's armed forces. This was done.
Unlike Vietnam where most guerrillas were Vietnamese most of the guerrillas in Iraq are from outside Iraq, Jordain's, Saudis, Iranian's, Yemenites, Pakistanis, Syrians, Kuwaitis, etc. They place bombs do an occasional ambush but mostly focus on destroying fellow Iraqis who are simply trying to make Iraq a decent place to live.

They are often compared today...Get the facts on both of them and make your own comparisons. Although Vietnam was not officially considered a war.

They are pretty similar, excepts that Vietnam was considered successful because communism was coming to an end around that time anyhow.

One thing you have to guard against is any tendency to not agree with your professor that Vietnam and Iraq were very similiar.
This makes them very angry if you disagree. My best advice is to say "oh yes, the Vietnamese who were being invaded from the North by ruthless communists are very similiar to the Iraqis who are being invaded in small measures by psycho nut-job Islamist extremists from Iran and other countries."
Don't let him or her know that you don't buy the Michael Moore libtard lies unless you want a lesser grade.

Realize that about 90% of college profs are democrats and do your assignment with that in mind. Give the prof what he/she wants and forget the facts. The wars have nothing in common.
