I want to get a small tattoo on the top side of my left wrist, - so where you would wear a watch... it's only very small just a chinese symbol...I wanted to know if anyone knows how much this would hurt? And how long it would take? First hand experiences would be great, I have quite a low pain threshold but it is something I want to get done!

keep in mind it's always about how good the artist is with the gun. Some tend to push harder while others are lighter with pressure. Also it's not just one needle...there are bundles of 8, 10, 12 depending on color and size of outline needed.

If it's your first one and it's gonna be small, talk to the artist and maybe chose a meatier area on you body. That way if your pain tolerance is really low you can handle it better.

AND DON'T DRINK BEFOREHAND!!!! You'll bleed like a mother****er. No fun.

Good luck!!

hiya,
I've got 3 tattoos but haven't had one on wrist. You say you have a low pain threshold so, yes it will hurt. It's like someone scratching at your skin with a needle but your only having a small one so it should only take about 10 minutes to do. Decide whether it's worth coping with pain for 10 minutes or not? You could also tell the tattoist your concerns.
I will say one thing though...... it's quite addictive. Once you've had one, you want another!!! personally, i'd go for it!
Good luck

If you have a low pain threshold tattoos are probably not for you. I have had kids and have generally said that pain was easier than tattoo pain. I have a tattoo on my lower back and my ankle. They both killed. But I think on the wrist is going to be like the ankle. There is not a lot of meaty flesh therefore no "padding". It is bony like the ankle so I think the wrist is going to hurt more than other spots. on the other hand if you are getting a small one on your wrist it should take no more than 30 minutes, maybe not that long. Do some meditating before and during. I try to just close my eyes and be somewhere else. I wore sweats too so I just squeezed them until they were in wrinkles..If its important to you you can do it.. and remember to only get something you want to look at forever

I have a chinese symbol on my shoulder blade. It took about 8 minutes or so and hurt like heck! I never hit the point where you become numb to the pain bc it was done so fast (thankfully). It's not unbearable pain, and I want another one. I don't know how bad your's will hurt there but being so small it won't take long.

I have one in that general area, and on the inside as well. To me, the outside was more painful. A 6 on a scale of 1 - 10. The inside was about a 3. Good luck!

supposedly the wrist is sore to get it done on.
I got 2 chinese symbols on my leg 2 days ago and they were 3 inches long each it took an hour
if yours is relatively small it shouldnt take more than 10 mins
I want good with pain but I could bear it
its definately worth it in the end.

i have 4 tattoos total - my upper shoulder and leg were bearable but the one on my wrist and spine hurt the most. A good tattoo artist will explain and warn you before he does it. I would suggest you think of another good place on your body in case the wrist is too painful.

It won't be THAT bad. Most people freak out about the first tattoo just to find they over worked themselves and got all freaked out over nothing.

If you really wanted it, the pain wouldn't matter. But you'll be fine.
