18 yrs. old is very young to have a high liver enzyme count. There are many questions to be answered. Is he consuming alcohol, is he on any medications that could be affecting the liver enzymes, are there any illicit drugs involved? The chest pains could be coming from multiple areas such as -weight problems, heart problems, anxiety issues, etc. This male needs to have a thourough physical to find out what is going on. Like I said he is too young to be experiencing these types of problems and it could be very serious---see a docter as soon as possible. Make sure all the symptoms are reported to the docter and any emotional problems count also. I work on a transplant floor and I feel so bad when I have to encounter a young person going through these things. Also, the elevated enzyme problem could be something stemming from birth or early childhood. Get it checked out.

Liver enzymes (AST & ALT) will be elevated with AMI, encephalitis, liver necrosis, musculoskeletal disease/trauma, acute pancreatitis, liver cancer, severe angina (you mentioned chest pains), strenuous exercise, acute pulmonary embolism and CHF. (In women, eclampsia), viral hepatitis. Cirrhosis is a factor in slight and moderate elevations of ALT. You've stated that the levels are high but I don't know what your version of "high" is. I need real numbers and I need to know which specific tests you're talking about. Liver function tests include a ProTime and bilirubin.

Obviously this 18-year-old male needs medical attention.

in addition to the nurses answer, 18 year olds these days can carry hepatitis c. it can cause the alt and ast levels to elevate as well.
same thing with mono-it can cause elevations.
there are many diseases that can cause the alt and ast levels to react with high enzyme counts.

good luck

Honestly, you should ask your doctor this question. Your likely to hear things here that might scare you. You can research it on the internet but again your doctor is your best source of information. And he can answer the questions you will have that follow the "answer" that he gives you to this question. Best Wishes to you from someone who doesn't know the answer.
