A friend of mine moved to Compton because they have cheaper housing.
Within a week of living there he was stabbed coming out of his apartment, in order to steal the $6.00 he had on him.
Oh, they also stole his prescription glasses, and fortunately he survived to move out of Compton.

Look at it this way if Compton is so "good" or "ok" how come rappers that lived their moved the second they got their big pay check why won't they let their kids hang out in Compton...The only time rappers are their is when filming a video with lots of police and body guards around them....Don't be fooled all those tough loking people around them are just props for their video and record....

Everybody makes their neighborhood out to be so tough, but yes Compton is known as a fairly bad place.
There are a few good areas, but I wouldn't leave my Benz running when I ran in to get a pack of gum at the old 7-11.
Unless you are looking for insurance and a long explanation with your company as to why you did what you did.

I'm sure it's really nice until you get robbed, mugged, or murdered... No matter where you are, if you're lucky enough to never be a victim of crime, you rarely realize how dangerous it is...
Same thing about any major city, inner city, urban development area, or red light district. New Orleans is borderline martial law every other weekend it seems, but if you visit some parts, you'd never know...

In America Compton is just a name in the phone book, you can get killed anyplace on earth if your dumb enough, so i suggest you join a police program in your city or town that shows you what to watch for, i hear of people saying oh that could never happen in my town were just to peaceful, just ask those poor Mormons children's parents in the most peacefull little town in the country. no one is truly safe where ever you go learn what to watch for.

While I have never been there at night, Compton during the day is not as bad as TV and rap make it out to be.
The people take care of their neighborhoods and houses, and you don't see drug dealers and gangstas hanging on every corner.

I live in a so called "bad neighborhood" and I can tell you, don't believe the hype.
Unless you plan to start selling drugs out of your house, you'll have nothing to worry about.
Most of the violent crime involves conflicts among drug dealers and gang members - unless you plan to join the crips, you should be perfectly safe.
I would just advise a bit of common sense - always keep your doors and windows locked, put bars up on all your first floor windows and invest in a good alarm system for your house and car.
To summarize - stay away from drug trafficking and properly lock your home and car, and you'll be perfectly OK.
You'll be surrounded by lots of hard working Mexicans and Blacks - the 99% of the neighborhood that you never hear about. I'm sure they'll make you feel welcome and you'll end up feeling right at home on the streets of Compton.
Some of your racist White friends may not want to come to your house and visit you - but why would you want them around anyway?
Good luck!

anywhere you go there will be problems. visit the area in the day time and at night to see how the area is. also the make sure the place is fully secured. talk with the neighbors and the owner...they will be able to to assure you of how it really is.

contrary to the popular belief with which we have been instilled by pop culture and gangster videos, compton is actually a middle class suburban neighborhood with picket fences, yards, two car garages, and a dog. the paperboy (in these pc times, is it etiquette to say paper-person?) delivers newspapers on his bike. it's very similar to a norman rockwell painting. about as close as you can get anyway.

well, move in with a plan, if you move in without a plan for the worst, you'll regret it.
think about how are you going to deal with break in, how are you going to keep your family safe. where are you going to park your car. is the wall thick enough to withstand a driveby....etc.
