A lot of my friends have been trying to get in shape since New Year's, but they won't stop whining about how hard it is to keep going to the gym and to avoid unhealthy food. But here's the real gem, I eat healthy and work out 6 days a week but all my friends won't stop complaining about how hard it is for them and how easy it is for me. If people are unhappy with their bodys and have a poor self-image, why are they unwilling to do what it takes to change both?

Obviously you've never had a weight problem, otherwise you'd never ask such a question. Regardless of knowing the right thing to do, it basically involves changing habits you've had for 20-30-40 years, and that's not an easy thing, no matter what the habit.

I have been fighting with my weight my entire adult life, and sometimes I do well, sometimes I don't. I do go to the gym and work very hard 4 times a week, and try to eat helthfully, but sometimes old habits get the better of me.

Try to break a habit you've had your entire life-you will see how difficult it really is.

I think that it is because, most diets don't work. Also most people think that in order to get proper excersize, you have to go to the gym. All you really have to do is eat healthy- a well balanced diet. Snacl on frutis and Veggies. Don't ever entirely cut out one food group, (unless the doctor tells you to because of health conditions) That only makes you want it more. For excersize simply getting out and walking or riding a bike, will get you proper excersize. If you are involved in physical soprts regualrly or dancing, that will get you plenty of exercize. Also jobs that keep you moving will do that.

I think that many times, we just make it too hard for ourselves to complete, it seems like this huge task. If we have to go to the gym everyday, then it is tougher. We sould just find some excersize that we like, and stick to that. I have found when I do simple excersizes five times a week, and make my own food, not prepared from a box or eating out, that I am much healthier.

Because people start for all the wrong reasons and want instant results. They need to realize that it's a life change and takes time and and realize that they won't see instant results. It takes a lot of work and self-discipline and if they can acheive that, it will become easier to remain on the right road.

It's only hard if it isn't something you are serious about. Those complainers just haven't done enough to really get the endorphins going in their bodies. I used to be a couch potato and now I go to the gym every day. I love how good it makes me feel to be in charge of my body and its health. There may be personal reasons why your friends are not motivated. Could be poor body image (which, paradoxically, will keep you OUT of the gym) or depression. Either way, just do what you're doing. Keep working out and making positive changes in your life and maybe you'll set such a good example that they wil join you.

Laziness. Why do you think advertising is so successful? How about horoscopes and fortune-tellers? People are too weak to accept responsibility that they have control over their lives.

Everyone wants to be rich, in shape, etc. but not everyone is willing to put in the effort.

I think it boils down to motivation and parents nowadays do not reinforce that in their children, hence they grow up unmotivated to achieve anything. Giving kids a trophy for coming in 10th place is retarded and taking them to McDonalds to celebrate afterwards isn't reinforcing healthy eating habits either.

You are being unkind to your friends. Changing behavior is always a difficult thing to do. People engage in there current behaviors because it serves their drives and values. You clearly place a high value on fitness, and probably enjoy your workouts. There are others (like me) who find exercise tedious, which means I must sacrifice things I would rather be doing to take the time to exercise.

If you workout 6 days a week, I bet you would have nearly as much problem stopping your workouts as your friends do starting to exercise.

Because the majority of people want a simple solution without the hard work. They all want a pill that will melt pounds off and provide that awesome figure.

Laziness is continuously increasing in this world and manufacturers are financially capitalizing on the gullible people who want that fast and simple solution. If I didn't care about taking advantage of people I could be a very wealthy person.

changing a life time's worth of bad habits IS hard. You could try being a bit more tolerant of your friends and a little less critical, I am sure you are not perfection personified.

My friend, you have answered your own question. Dieting and Fitness requires a commitment, and a lot of work. Too many lazy people out there just want a quick fix.
