The hard part will be becoming an American citizen. This isn't a difficult process, but a time-consuming one. While you are sending in your paperwork and waiting for responses, consider which part of the country you would like to live in. Don't limit yourself to just the major cities, like nypd, chicago pd, boston pd, etc. While these places are nice, they are also fairly expensive. Keep in mind that many police departments have a crazy rule that you actually have to live in the city you are working in. This can be a big issue if you work for the nypd but would like to live 6 miles away in new jersey, or if you would prefer to work in the chicago pd, but live in the suburbs that aren't officially in the city limits. Also, if you're a hardcore guy and really good at what you do, consider working with the feds. ATF and FBI are also good agencies. But it all comes back to getting your citizenship. Get that, then you only have to take the civil service test, which is veyr easy, to qualify as a police officer. good luck

You will have to become an American citizen at the least. You may also have to have a minimum of an Associates Degree. You will have to pass a written test, fitness test, psychological test, background check, and lie detector test. Then it's off to the academy. Good Luck!

Just a thought, if you write to the American police association of police officers i am sure they will direct you to the are and dept you require, but remember this a cop in America is more dangerous than a soldier in Iraq so think about what service you wish to join, be a soldier for America then you will have earned your stripes. we have better weapons also.

Police work in America is not as glamorous as shown on TV or the movies in the UK. It's often boring and tedious, follow by moments of shear terror.
Consider what you might be getting before applying for the papers to immigrate.

The one guy I know of that did it served in the U.S. military, got his citizenship and then became a cop.
If you google world wide police motorcycle riding equipment you'll find it, his name is TEK.

Forget the US and come to Canada. Apply with the RCMP or city police departments. It's good if you have college or university in law enforcement but they may train you without it.
