Firstly we did allow you your independence. It was decided that the war was to expensive and unnessecery. Less than 1500 British died in battle ( 18500 died of disease ) were as 8000 Americans died. We only had 60000 soldiers, 30000 of which were German mercenaries. The Americans had 250000. It was also Britain against France, Spain, Holland and the Colonies. When you come to think about it it wasnt the greatest achievement by the US. Without help from your allies we would of won and many of you probably wouldnt exist today because the British didnt take to kindly to uprisings and usually slaughted the people involved.
As for the war of 1812. No side won, the US was terrified of the British who swept through there armies with ease and the British were finding the US armies tactics difficult to handle although victory was only ever going to be for the British. Again the war was expensive and hard to keep going but it ended the US ever trying to invade Canada again and the British trying to regain the Colonies it had given up. Basically both sides gained nor lost anything.
The Falklands was 100% British. We fought it we won it ( very common when talking about the British ). Fot you Americans who say " wow you won a war against a vastly inferior army " can i remind you of a nice country called Iraq? You cant beat some ragheads. We might be there but we are doing much better, even having nearly got peace but then the US does something stupid like send 21000 troops over?. Then again you lost in Vietnam to a bunch of vastly inferior soldiers. Just remember that Britain doesnt underestermate its enemy and has the greatest military record of all time. In 1000 years we have lost no war ( wars are lost through surrender or capture of a leader/capital city ). Pretty good for an Army that once controlled the world with just 30000 soldiers.
Britain would never of been conquered by Germany. We defended our country and the Germans decided the better leave us alone so you Americans can stop saying that bollox cant you............well done, doest the truth make you feel better. There was more chance of the Germans taking over your country than there was ours after the Battle of Britain and Germany had plans and it was to be there next move because they couldnt ever beat Britain. Thankyou and goodnight.

there is no evidence to say the Islands are Aregentine and you certainly havent backed anything up HAH.. youve only gave us your opinion the reason why the UN wont have a say on the matter is because britian has more history with the islands and a story to back up on why its British over sea's territory. The british brought it from the Spanish as it was Spanish soveignty. Then argentinia excluded them selves from the Spanish and said hang on they are our islands ? No the deal was done between spain ( the rightfull owners ) and the British the new Owners legally paid for. where does argentina come into this ? it doesn't !!!!! As for the Americans they don't want to ruin their reputation with south America, and Britian and called for a Nauteal position. Whitch means they arent taking sides on the matter. Yes i would say most of the UK public are anti American, proberly because Americans throw thier weight around and bully other nations ? this has been proven which is why Obama has tried to fix relations with many nations across the globe, because Bush basically PIS/SED every one off. Not to mention Americans War on independance ? thats a good reason why some brits wont like America the same for tia wan and china. etc... All Normal. Britian doesn't buy its nuclear weopens from Armerica ours are very differant to Americans ours arent on land and arent made the same, infact ours consist of DEADLY GAS and chemicals to create a mass after effect. and their based in submarins. So ask your sef why would the UK buy land Nukes from America when ours are at Sea ????? You sir need an education on History. Britian has no interest or benifit being in Iraq or Afganistan the fact that were part of the EU and the EU offically stated it a war based on LIES. so the British really should of pulled out or never haved joined in the fisrt place. we have more reasons to pull out then just America not backing the UK on the Falklands. The british islanders wont go back to britian ill give you a secrete to why... Falklands are British ;)

LOL, you're a really funny guy. You didn't allow anything, but I'll answer the question first.
The British won that on their won, but they really didn't need any help to devastate a vastly inferior Argentine military. Argentina actually entered the war of the Malvina--as they call it--thinking that the US would help them fight off the British. This would have been more in line with the Monroe Doctrine of protecting the Americas from European invaders, but Argentina underestimated America's ties to the UK. They also underestimated the UK's interest in holding the Falklands as the UK was downsizing its military, but still found the will to fight off this lesser challenger. Finally, Chile was the final nail in Argentina's fight, not through actual combat as there was none, but through the threat of conflict, which kept Argentina's forces divided between the Falklands and protecting the mainland.
About allowing us to have our independence... we won, embarassed the world's greatest military force (at the time) and left you so sore that you came back with a vengeance and burnt our capital a few decades later. I hardly consider that "allowing." Both wars were concluded when the Brits could no longer afford both to fight us and the French and maintain control of its vast empire around the world. Yes, the Brits had an awesome military and far-reaching power back then, but we still won our independence through attrition with a little help from the old school French (before they got wussified).
About Vietnam, we went in there to repay the French and clean up their mess, dominated nearly every battle, and eventually grew tired of the conflict and withdrew for purely political reasons. The US military remains militarily undefeated, the only major country that can say so.
EDIT: Saffysmom, you claim to know 20th C history, but then you should know that it was Patton's armor divisions in N. Africa and Italy that first turned the Nazis back to retreat in Europe. Even the Field Marshalls admitted this when they recounted that he was their greatest threat. And while we're grateful for the moral support from the UK, Poland, etc. in coalitions when dumb liberals clamor for international consensus, it's the US military that wins the wars.
Foxhound, you must be kidding. The US beat Japan without help from anyone, rescuing 3 continents from its expanding empire. And when US troops constitute 90% of the force makeup, it's retarded to think that the other 10% was the cause for victory.
So far our kill list includes Japan, Italy, Germany, Iraq (one of the largest militaries at the time), kinda North Korea (China saved their butt with a neverending wave of troops after we swept through them to the Chinese border), and a handful of lesser nations.

Whatever. The Falklands were won because of the courage of Madame Thatcher.
Our independence sent King George over-the-top into total insanity. Brittian did not allow us to be independent, we won it through attrition. Parliment realized that commerce was the reason to establish the colonies in the first place, and more commerce would be had with an allied colonies rather than a resentful and rebellious colony.
Parliment decided wisely that the war was unwinnable and unprofitable.

Funny how some Americans forget that the only reason they won the war of independence, was that the French and Spanish helped them.
I hardly think a little upstart colony could defeat the most powerful empire in the history of mankind all by itself.
As for the Falklands, given that the two countries are allies, it would hardly be surprising if the US shared information with the UK.
But given that the US has never won a war without the UK helping them, I think it would only be the most ignorant of Americans who would claim to have "won every other war".
As for WWII, I seem to recall there may have been one or two British people fighting in it. Some Americans though, are so myopically patriotic that they don't seem to realise these people were fighting to safeguard US safety as much as the US were safeguarding the UK's.
I wonder how long the US would have lasted if the bombs had started falling....

The American's did not fight in the Falklands but I see no reason why they should have! The American's should not claim they kept us free of Germany either! The Battle of Britian was over before they were forced into WW2 by the Japanese but they certainly helped to liberate the European Continent. We actually should thank the Russians and Hitler's mistake of trying to fight a war on too many fronts. I wish as well that American's would remember where they come from originally! They were Europeans who stole a land from it's native people and it was not just the English who were guilty!
I don't think America can claim to have won any other war but the one for Independence! They didn't win in Vietnam and did not fight alone against Germany, or in the Gulf!
I'm not anti-American in any way just a student of 20th century history and My husband served in the RAF during the Falklands War.

As far as I am aware, they provided arms to the argentines.
Regarding the US war of independence, the British defeated Napoleon then traveled across the ocean in to combat the Americans, who skulked in the undergrowth taking potshots.
Then there is the 2nd World War which Hollywoodised Americans seem to think they won all by themselves...when the finally got involved. Despite the fact that it was actually the Russians who really defeated the Nazis. If you dispute that, then why when the Iron curtain was up, the German capital of Berlin was miles behind Russian lines.
As for this idiot firespider, she can't even comprehend that this is a US/UK site and you are actually already in the UK.

To say the United States and England don't share military "intelligence" and other shared assets would be furthest from the truth.
It's sad to see the position you take on whether or not the United States "won" or were "given" their independence.
I'd prefer to say that sadly both sides of the Revolution lost lives of which was unfortunate.
Instead of trying to "rub against the grain" by slurring who did what...suffice it to say that Americans won their independence because ... that's what history shows!
A very GOOD book written by David McCullough, "1776", shows stories from BOTH sides of the war. Mistakes made by both governments and personal diaries from soldiers who fought in the war!
Look at how similar our countries are and the common things we share instead of who's better than whom!
Best wishes!
