I just found out I have really high blood sugar and high cholesterol. Do you have any suggestions on how to get these lowered without going on medication for it? I am only 25. The doctor says I am pre-diabetic. Helpful answers only please.

These days not many docs use the term pre-diabetes any more. For your blood sugar you need to eat 3 low carb meals daily with a high protein snack mid morning, mid afternoon and before bed to help keep your blood sugar level. Get exercise daily. For you cholesterol try taking fish oil capsules and eating more fish and lets foods transfats in them. Bake, broil or grill your meat instead of frying it and eat plenty of veggies and fruits.

Same thing happened to me. Now I am a diabetic. First start making right choices when you eat. Carbs are a starch so they have to limited. Exercise is another key factor, make sure you do a daily exercise regiment, mix it up so you don't get bored. Watch the sugar intake, give up regular soda and switch to diet or you can drink crystal light. You can eat as much sugar free jello as you want. Start reading the labels. Some times it comes from hereditary, my whole family is a diabetic so the chances of me becoming one where high. Your still young so go on web and look up under diabetes, see a nutritionist. Take charge now. good Luck!

He can eat the daily recommended amount. And it's good that you're eating a lot more fruit and veggies! It's better than chugging a gallon of corn syrup at a time! It all depends on the KIND of sugar you ingest, if he's eating a ton of breads, that's bad, but some fruit is ok. Good luck!

The doctor was right, and your pre-diabetic condition will change to diabetes by the time you are thirty if you don't take control of your dietary habits and do it quickly.
I urge you to see a nutritionist for lessons on eating healthy, to learn what the difference is between good and bad carbs, to learn which protiens and fats to stay away from and which can help. Your doctor can refer you.
