If your thyroid is underactive medication will help to regulate it so eventually you will lose weight, You need to go to your doctor to get a thyroid function test done(blood test) that is the only way to know for sure

If you are hyothyroid, the meds don't usually help you lose weight, but they do stop you from gaining any more. Doctors like to tell you if you just take the thyroid meds that the weight will just drop off. This is just not true, though there are a rare few who do lose the weight with just thyroid meds. For weight loss to happen, you need the TSH around 1.0, exercise, and reducing carbs.
If you do have an underactive thyroid, please go on thyroid meds because you will just keep gaining weight and you'll have so many other symptoms develop.

If you have hypothyrodism (too little) and are given medication for it, you should be able to lose weight easier than without the medication.
Do you have all the symptoms?
Coarse and thinning hair.
Brittle nails.
Dry skin.
A yellowish tint to the skin.
Slow body movements and speech.
Inability to tolerate cold.
Feeling tired, sluggish, or weak.
Memory problems, depression, or difficulty concentrating.
Constipation.
Heavy or irregular menstrual periods that may last longer than 5 to 7 days.
If you've got multiple symptoms, see a doctor. A simple blood test can tell you if you're having thyroid issues.
