What I mean is if I have a high-end high-definition TV (like a Pioneer Elite), can I still view VHS and laserdisc movies on it without the picture looking horrible?

Are HD TV's only good with HD media (like Blu-Ray) or do HD TV's work well with older video playback technology? Would I be better off to just keep my tube TV for VHS, laserdisc, and DVD and use an HD TV for Blu-Ray?

Standard television looks fine on a HDTV. I have a 50" HD-plasma and regular TV looks good and so do DVD's. Your VHS will look fine also. But the bigger the screen the more distorted it looks but not by much.

yes they are. If you have a High End High Def tv right now...most of the channels you can watch are not in High Def...yet you can see them fine...though not in high def. The tv won't make your vhs tapes look any better than they did before, but they won't look worse either.
