well, you could wait until you move out and get your own place. I won't allow my children to get a pet either. This is the reason why: Oh yes they will be all excited when we first get the dog and will walk it, feed it, take care of it, and then................the novelty wears off and who is stuck taking care of the dog?? The parents. Parents have enough to do just taking care of children, then add a dog into the mix and it can be enough stress to push a full time working mother or father over the edge. Sorry, if your dad says no, it's probably for a reason. Wait til you get your own place and get a thousand dogs if you want.
Apparently there are a bunch of spelling and grammar watchdogs on here today. Sorry you got all the criticism for your grammar and spelling. Some people think it makes them look smart when they correct others spelling and grammar mistakes when actually it just makes them look pathetic.

Perhaps you can compromise by getting a smaller breed dog. Silky terriers are good dogs, and their coat grows like human hair, so they don't shed nearly as much as most breeds. Also, take a trip to your local animal shelter. There will be dogs there just waiting to find a new, loving home. Stay away from extremely active dogs if you don't think you or the family will have time to spend with them. Also, a dog is a part of the family, not some creature tied up outside that gets food and water once a day. Google up dog breeds...there are some very unique breeds, and perhaps, maybe one out there will appeal to your whole family, including your dad!

Im in the exact same situation, 1 and a half years ago family friends moved up the road and they had 3 burmese cats. One of the cats is all the time at our house, but our family have tried talking to my dad about the future when the cat dies. He refuses to have a cat when we basically allreadyy have one. I have rubbish advice but i thought id drop you a note saying im in the same position. My rubbish advice is to again find another dog to walk show your dad how comitted you are, cry alot to show him how much u love dogs. Every birthday and christmas put on your list as first a dog, and dont put anything else. Put posters up in your room of dogs, have a calander of dogs just pester him all the time about dogs. I really do feel for u coz im in the same situation hope my advice kind of... helps!

I'm sorry for your loss. ask your dad if he ever had a dog before. if he says no the say then how do you know you won't like one. if he says yes tell him to tell you about the dog he had. One option he might go for is to get a dog on the condition that you will find it a new home if it doesn't work out. Find a dog at the nearest shelter and bring it home and let your dad make the first move. good luck.

First, you should get a dog from the humane society, because mutts are better, healthier pets, and those dogs really need you. I'd say guilt trip him. Take him to a pet store on adoption day, if they do them near you, usually Saturday and/or Sunday like noon-4 is a safe time, and talk to the adoption people. Often these people have like 15 dogs living in their garage (foster home) waiting for someone to take them home for good. They will do the hard sell for you! Also it's much cheaper to get those dogs, so the financial burden on your dad is minimal. If there aren't adoption days near you, you can go to the pound. There's a lot to choose from, and he can pick one he likes too.

I really sympathise with your situation, when I was a child me and my dad would have love to have had a dog but my mum wouldn't have one, I was always bringing strays home in the hope she would change her mind but she never did, I had to wait until I was all growed up (I know that is misspelled) before I got my own dog and before that I went into the army as a Kennel maid/dog handler/groom, so if your dad won't change his mind why don't you see if you can do come voluntary work at a dog rescue shelter?
I wish you good luck!

do research. on different breeds and what is needed for each. depending on your age, see if you can do work at a local spca. try getting your dad to be more specific about why he doesn't want a dog. then use your research to respond. like if he doesn't want a dog to shed all over the house, tell him about breeds that don't shed. there is a breed that fits everything, even not barking if he doesn't want the noise. it's just a matter of knowing what he doesnt want

HI
Listen to your dad if someone in the house doesn't want a dog then it is not a good home for them. Find another dog to befriend and visit.
