I have a convertible crib with wooden piece that the mattress sets on and can be height adjusted... I need another crib now and most of them only have those spring mattress supports that screw into sides of the crib. My thought is the wooden would withstand more wear/tear/weight and last long with less chance of injury - especially because the bed is designed to convert to a toddler/day bed using the same mattress support. One local furniture place said the wooden mattress supports arent as safe..the other place says they are safe and are better built. Need answers ASAP

We bought our crib in 1999 for our son now 7, its a convertable so it was a crib and a day bed for a while. Its been through our daughter, now 4 and my friend's boy who is now 2, SPRINGS work great! The mfgr I believe is Crib-for-Life and so far 8 years and 3 kids later, still holding on great!

Well, let me tell you my experience. growing up I had a queen size bed from elementary school to high school. It was such a pain in the BUTT!! I had to keep on fixing it and it's not worth the effort to keep on fixing the wodden supports. My brother was probably 9 and he jumped on the bed and snapped the wooden supports all in half. The wooden support at the bottom would fall also everytime I made my bed. The bed was expensive, but not worth the trouble. I have two children and the spring support is great, I feel secure with my children having allen screws locked in their metal support springs. I don't have to worry when I change the sheets, because the springs never move unless I use excessive force. Go with the metal springs. When I left for camp, my brother slept in my bed ( he was scared having me away) and he broke his coller bone when the wooden supports snapped. So springs are safe.

Ok maybe I am dumb but I really can't figure out what the spring type would be? Do you have pictures.
