I don't know why but I do feel awkward. The saying it's better to give than to receive is certainly true for me!

I completely agree with you! Although I like presents I get a little embarrassed when I get them because that person is standing right in your face waiting for a reaction! Even when I get something awful, like at Xmas my gran gave each of us a pen with a suction cup on one end to stick to the table and a wobbly dogs head on the other, I was like "oh thanks gran, that's very useful" when really I meant "what they hell do I want that for!"

You are not the only one! My partner hates me giving him presents - in fact he gave ME a present on HIS birthday! lol He loves to give, and share, and gets embarrassed if I or anyone else give him stuff. He feels awkward and indebted to them. Meanwhile....I get to have two birthdays a year, and a double Christmas, so I'm not complaining! lol. Don't worry about it - yes its a bit unusual, but not weird or anything. Just don't let anyone take advantage of your good nature. :)

I hate receiving presents as I'm a rubbish liar and I assume that people can see straight into my soul and know i think they're lame

I was that way when younger. My mum instructed me to learn to (sometimes blushing inwardly) say "Thank you" and then add a compliment or two.
It once backfired. Elderly friends gave me bath salts with an odour of camphor and heaven knows what else.
I did my act, though reviled. Bloody Hell! They bought me another jar of the foul stuff the next year!
BLECH!

i love receiving presents!!
is there a part of you that thinks you're not worthy of receiving these presents? it's usually a sign of self-confidence issues. other than that, i don't know.
