No your definately wrong there. Contact your local council, tell them you are not currently working, but are actively seeking work and that you are getting either Contributions based jobseekers allowance or ordinary jobseekers, they will send you a form to fill in for your council tax and rent. I know, coz I did it for my sister a couple of weeks ago, send them back to the council, tell also your benefit agency when you next go to sign, they may give you a seperate form to fill in. It could take up to 10 weeks to sort it out with your landlord, but it does get paid. You may need to pay perhaps 1.30 of your council tax or something equally silly amount, they like to feel as though you are paying something. Call up your council now, because "not knowing" is not a good enough reason when it comes to backdating your claim and you need to start that as soon as possible. Good luck

You should be able to get help straight away, do phone your local council and ask for housing and council tax benefit department and have a chat with them. They can send you a form to complete and then the Council can assess you.
If you have over 3,000 in the bank this may affect the amount you can received.
Only one way to find out speak to someone at the Council.
You may have to prove to them that you are in receipt of job seekers allowance and prove what your total income is.

I think you're wrong there. You get rent allowance and council tax relief at the same time as job seekers and can claim from the same date - there is no waiting 26 weeks - whoever told you that is wrong. Apply to your local council for a form xxx

Jobseekers Allowance is a passport benefit. It allows you to access Council Tax benefits and Housing Benefit. Both are controlled by your Local Authority so contact your local Access Point or Housing Office for further advice on form filling.

Contact your local council as they usually have a benefits section. You will also need to fill out a CT1 form and a HB1 form at your Benefits Agency office (where you sign on)
Ask at the local CAB

The bad news is that as you - presumably - did not claim the instant that you went onto JSA you may well not be paid for the time up to now. If you can "prove" you were misadvised they might relent but they are very strict.

Once you are receiving 'Job-seekers' you are entitled to help with rent etc. Go back to the job-seekers office and get the application forms.
