OK, how do I put this; NYC (Manhattan) is a great city to live in; its beautiful...but you have to know whats coming to you because people here DO NOT GIVE A SH*T about you. noone will care if your sick or if you had lunch, so what I'm trying to say is that you have to have tough skin to live here specially if your going to come live here alone....it can get lonely if you dont have a good core group of people. I have had many friends move here from California and go back 6 months later. cause they cant hack it....NYC RULES!

The person above;s aunt and uncle must have a rent-stabilized apartment; even that is insanely cheap at this point I live in a 2BR right below Columbia at the 103 stop and it's $2350 a month, and that was on the cheap end of listings in Manhattan, unless you move up to Washington Heights.
I plan to move to Jersey City or Queens/Brooklyn ASAP to find cheaper rent. If you are not made of money, Manhattan is no fun; I work 4 jobs and go to school full time, and my parents still have to help me with rent.

depending on your definition of 'nice'? yes it is nice if you have money. it's gotten quite expensive recently esp. with real estate going up so much the past few years. the people above $2350 for 2 bd apt. is impossible. my friend pays jounior 4 for $2800 and it's on the cheap end. for 2 bd apt here is usually $4000 average. but nyc has a lot to offer that no other city can be compared to. it's an experience and you must try it out for yourself!

Manhattan is the best. I love living in the area...But like the other posts said...It's great, if you have money. Don't move here broke..You won't last.
